Wvlk-fm 101.1

Just as I expected....Those listening for WSGS on 101.1 have lost their right to listen to it in the Lexington, Richmond and Winchester areas. I went over to Winchester this morning and there's a serious MESS between WVLK and WSGS on this frequency in that city. Coming back to Lexington on US60, just two miles EAST of the Ch27 tower, where the WVLK translator is located, You can see the tower, but WSGS is still trying to break through on 101.1. In SW Fayette County, where I live, WVLK and WSGS are hashing it out on my car radio, although WVLK captures the frequency most of the time.


I KNOW...WSGS is 90 miles away, but it is THE most powerful FM station, with the biggest footprint in Kentucky. I would not be surprised if a bunch of people file complaints about this allocation with the FCC.

Same here. I live in the southern part of Lexington and WSGS is "TRYING" to over power WVLK. I also work in Winchester and was driving back home to Lexington and kept it on 101.1 and like you said, it's a mess in Clark County/Winchester.

Isn't this station licensed in "Lawerenceburg"? Does it even reach that town? Isn't there a better frequency to put it on?

Looks like the change of COL to Lexington was granted 10/1. The vacant / unused FM frequencies feature on radio-locator is designed for someone with an FM Modulator looking for the best frequency to play an mp3 player through a car radio. Bold print under the dial graphic says "We found no vacant frequencies on the FM dial in Lexington, Kentucky." As for the stations listed, I doubt if the Georgetown College LPFM at 93.7 would be too happy. The Cincinnati stations on most of those frequencies might not be heard in Lexington, but someone north toward Cinti or east toward Morehead in the case of 97.7 could throw the same complaint we are here.

So sorry.

Just to say that you can't really hear 93.7 outside of Georgetown. I guess I didn't think about that station.

If you are (or anybody else reading this is) going to file a complaint, don't bother going to the FCC. The proper procedure is to complain to WSGS and let them decide whether to take it to the FCC. The FCC only accepts listener complaints about translators via the station.

Your video really demonstrates that WVLK's translator on 101.1 is causing interference to WSGS in the Wincester area and elsewhere. I was in Winchester last Saturday and could not believe what I was hearing. On the way back to Lexington, along US-60 (Winchester Rd.), WSGS was cutting into WVLK as close as two miles east of the WKYT-TV tower, well within site of the tower where the translator is located.

I realize WSGS is 90 miles away from Lexington but with their 100,000 watt ERP, MOUNTAIN-TOP location and VERY TALL 906' tower, their signal really gets out...MUCH better than indicated in Radio-Locator. I live in SW Lexington and have had a pre-set for WSGS on my car radio for many years.

Feel free to email them that video. I've emailed them once.

This is the response I got already.

"Thanks for the heads up. We knew this was always a possibility. We’re going to contact our FCC Engineer and see if another frequency might work for WVLK. You never know...."

I was a little upset when 101.5 switch to another country station that we didn't need in this town. I enjoy listening to WSGS and WVLK. I was very happy to hear that WVLK was going to be back on the FM dial. I just think there could be a better station to put it on.

98.5 would of been great. I've heard it around Clay City. I don't expect the translator to reach to London, but cover Fayette and the surrounding counties better.
