WVLT gets ratings in Wilmington!

> Apparently somebody is finally listening!

Probably some guy that was listening to XTU and just wrote down 92.

Here's something that's also interesting...

WSOX, the oldies station out of Red Lion, PA (near Lancaster) showed up in the Wilmington Arbitron for the first time I can remember. We speculated it could be former WQSR, Baltimore listeners after their switch to the Jack format, but that wouldn't explain WVLT. WVLT has always had a good enough signal to at least show up in the Wilmington market...especially Salem Co., so yes that was an interesting sighting. Could there be an oldies hole in the Wilmington market? Except for the fact that oldies stations are dying around the nation, I'd say there might be.

I was down in New Castle, DE for a job interview December, 2004. I was early, so I had a little time to check out the dials (I was thinking of relocating).

You'd be surprised how well Capital Region stations (Hbg, Lancaster, Yourk, etc) come in down there. Well, obvious exceptions of WINK, Hot 92 and KISS. <P ID="signature">______________
I've done it all...HOO HOO...tell 'em, Fred!

At the risk of dating myself...

I went to school in Cecil County, Maryland. The station EVERYBODY (at least everybody our age) listened to was then-Top 40 WSBA. Wilmington reception was poor. Baltimore was adequate. Philly, forget it. Radio from South Central PA did OK. Now the music WSBA used to play has migrated down the hall to cluster mate WSOX. So, I'm not surprised they'd still get some audience in Cecil County (now part of the Wilmington radio market - whether it that's the case because Cecil County is assigned to the Wilmington metro area by the Census Bureau or because people in Cecil County really listen to Wilmington stations is another question).

Wilmington does seem a good market for Oldies. CBS Radio Philly Oldies station WOGL 98.1 has done OK in Wilmington and came up in the last book. That's in addition to activity for WSOX and WLVT 92.1 in Vineland (which probably gets the most of its ears in Salem County). It's interesting how much of the Wilmington audience listens to rim-shot stations.
