WVMX Mix 107.9 changes COL

Looks like this went through really fast too, WVMX is now licensed to Westerville, not Delaware anymore, and power was bumped to a full 3kw from 2.6 on the same tower

Hmmm, the tower with the power? I didn't think they could do that, but then again, maybe they are just rounding up the numbers as much as the can get away with.

More power to them! (obvious pun not intended) :D

And all of this makes perfect sense...

To move to 3 KW, you'd have to lower the antenna height.

It's not really gonna make that much difference, because to increase coverage by 50%, you'd have to double the amount of power.

However, the change of city of license is interesting. They can legitimately make that change happen because WDLR-AM is still in Delaware. The city is not being deprived radio service. Not sure why the change of COL, unless somebody there thinks "Westerville/Columbus" is better to say than "Delaware/Columbus". Still, it's a move worth watching...just to see what, if anything, happens.

It puts them one step closer to moving the stick.
Because now the COL is much closer to the metro, they could easily drop the stick closer to the city.
That is, if WCKX 107.5 is ok with it.
The WOSU tower perhaps?

Why pay rent and use a STL? They might even get by with using the tower at their studio site. Now wouldn't that be convenient?

I thought Saga took down the tower at the studios ...besides that would be to far south to move 107.9... their second adj to 107.5 and with both having IBOC I can only imagine the hash and interference caused (not to mention I dont think the FCC would let them move 107.9 that far south -- even without IBOC).

Also, I would think 1st adj 107.7 in Nelsonville and in dayton would play a factor in WVMX attempting to move their tower.

Sounds like Saga should do some handshaking with the owners of 107.5 to see if they work together to find a mutually beneficial tower placement arrangement. ;)

Before the three WVKO towers were taken down, they built a new tower right behind the building. It is the same height as the original self-supporting tower used by WVKO that also had the FM antenna on it, which is still used as an aux. for WSNY. The STL antennas for all of the stations were recently moved onto the new tower from the telephone pole that used to hold them.

Logic dictates a couple of things:

1. Saga would not have changed the COL without having plans to make a move closer in.

2. The fact that they did make the change indicates they have had engineering studies done that showed some sort of move is possible. It undoubtedly will not be as good as they would like, but it must be enough of an improvement for them to pursue.

Or...... it my open up a way to move 104.3 to Delaware if the move to west jefferson falls through

They need to get 104.3 inside Franklin Co. in order to be competitive. Moving it to Delaware from Richwood would be a lateral move at best that would still leave them with a marginal signal in a large part of the metro.

The COL change makes since for Saga. Remember, they are moving WVMX to Westerville and yes there has been an engineering study completed. The main option is to put them on the WOSU tower and another option puts them on a tower off of 315 near 270.

As for Delaware, this is part of a much larger move to allow for two things to happen. 104.3 moves its COL to Delaware with the new tower on US 33.

Remember Saga has to spin off WQEL Bucyrus and its moving 92.7 to Marion County with a "Richwood COL". The station is being donated to Bible Radio Networks.

Then Saga can move forward eventually with the consumption of CC Mansfield/Ashland

I knew the ODB move to West Jeff was in trouble...something to do with the inability of WCVO to move?  But is Delaware the best they could do?  By US 33, do you mean perhaps the site at 33 and 42 where 105.7 started out (as a Marysville station)?

Not happening without a waiver of distance separation rules. Can't go any closer to 107.5.

Wouldn't WODB too have an issue moving to deleware with 103.9 in westerville?

Yes, that's another 2nd adjacent spacing situation. Same rules apply, 31km/19.22 miles between the two towers. Somehow I doubt that those other owners are going to give Saga interference waivers.

...and don't forget WMMX/Dayton @ 107.7.

104.3 is on the original 105.7 tower, along Rt. 4 NE of Marysville. The tower at US 33 & 42 was the second tower used by 105.7 and went into service in 1994. It was removed in 2004.
