WVNJ is in the process of dropping Adult Standards and adding talk & information programming. Here is a press release on WVNJ's new morning show:

WVNJ 1160AM Set To Debut New Morning Show

Radio Station 1160 WVNJ will debut a new morning show on Monday December 11th. The program will feature veteran talk radio hosts Gary R’nel and Kathleen Maloney who will join WVNJ’s long-standing morning host Pete Bucky. The new morning program to air from 6am to 9am will feature entertaining and interactive discussions among the hosts, listeners, and guests covering a mix of topics including politics, news, current events, life style issues, and entertainment talk.

The new morning program will be called “The Voice in the Morning”, reflecting WVNJ’s transition to a talk radio format. Since September the station has added numerous talk programs and is now identifying itself as “1160 WVNJ - The Voice”.

Gary R’nel’s previous on-air work includes stints at WABC-AM in New York, WWDB-FM in Philadelphia, Westwood One’s Jim Bohannon Show, Fox Radio News, and WEVD-AM in New York. Gary is the winner of several awards from the Associated Press and the recipient of a New Jersey State Legislative Proclamation honoring several feature broadcasts.

Kathleen Maloney has twenty years of experience as a talk show host and journalist. She is a former morning co-host for WABC – New York who has been heard on air at WKTU-FM, WPLJ-FM, WYNY-FM, WOR-AM, and WNYC-AM in New York as well as WWDB-FM in Philadelphia. Kathleen is also the winner of dozens of awards including Best Overall Performance by a Radio Newsperson. Along with her radio work, Kathleen has been a feature reporter for WABC-TV’s Eyewitness News.

WVNJ is a 20,000-watt station serving Northern New Jersey, Rockland and Westchester Counties, as parts of New York City, Long Island, and Fairfield County Connecticut. The station, owned and operated by Universal Broadcasting of New York is licensed to Oakland, New Jersey and operates from offices and studios located in Teaneck, NJ.

WVNJ 1160 AM is/was a "standards" music station that is slowly becoming infomercials (some with listener call ins) and brokered time (around 10PM there's a Jesusfreak/caster Tony Alamo Christian Ministry:), it seems. They also have a new "jingle" that says "WVNJ, the Voice".

I like to tune in big band music and such from time to time, but I guess WVNJ has bills to pay....

Were is the music, where are the songs you know from the stars who made them famous...Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin, Perry Como, Peggy Lee, Andy Williams, Glenn Miller, Bobby Darin, Rosemary Clooney, Harry Connick, Jr., Benny Goodman, Barbara Streisand...?????????

Probably where most of their original listeners are: in the grave, or skidding rapidly towards it. Tough to sell that demographic to Pepsi, et al....

Blueclaws, it wasn't meant to be funny. It's just true - a number of the artists listed there ARE dead, and several others probably aren't long for this world either. A lot of their loyal fan base have been with them since they first hit the charts, and so it follows that many of them share the same fate, ie: either aging or passed on. Oh sure, there are a certain amount of younger people who listen for one reason or another. But not enough to ever bring that format into CHR numbers. And without CHR numbers, you're not gonna get CHR spot dollars.

Radio is a business, and an expensive business at that. It's hard to criticise owners (particularly individual owners, as opposed to corporate overlords) who tweak formats in an attempt to realize fiscal gain. Even if it means dumping programming that is dear to a select few.

Are you in the radio business by any chance? (Copy writer, maybe? ;) )

i understand and no iam not in the bussiness but looking to get in any info

YOU truly may be a nice and talented you man or woman with great potential, but with grammar like that I would tend to overlook you in a heartbeat if I were an employer. That was just as painful to read as your original post. Granted you may or may not care what I or anyone else on this board has to say, but how you carry yourself, WRITE, and most importantly (if you want to get into the business) speak, truly DO reflect the character of a person.

Just some words of advice... Feel free to do as you wish with them ;)
