WVOT Tower Collapse

WVOT, 1420 in Wilson has had a tower literally fold over double. It's bent right in the middle, with the tip-top pointing straight down. Weird. They have 2 towers. The driven element is undamaged, so they're still on the air. The bent stick is one of the originals from the late '40s, so I guess it's done its' time. If you want to see a radio oddity, come to Herring Avenue in Wilson amd take a gander.

I am not surprised that this tower collapsed. The two tower array produced the night-time cardioid pattern over Wilson. Only one tower was utilized for ND daytime operation. That tower was so rusty that tower climbers would not climb it anymore as the horizontal braces would break off as they climbed. It was replaced in 1985 by then owner Voyager Communications. Voyager purchased both WVOT-AM and it's sister FM on 106.1 MHz. 106.1 would become WRDU-FM...
