So I'm reliving childhood a bit and wondering about a certain show on this station before it went to FOX and everyone was all excited about the switch. There was a show called "Count Your Fingers" where a 'vampire' showed bad horror movies along with his hand with eyes drawn on it and the like.

Anyone remember this show or where to find it as far as old tapes or anything?

Or if "The Count" is still around?

Not sure about that one, but WDBD in Jackson used to have a cheesy horror movie on Saturday night that was also hosted by some kind of freaky looking charactor. WDBD's looked like some guy in drag wearing some sort of halloween get-up. I think his/her name was "Margauli" The movie was usually some old 70's cheese. Speaking of that does anyone remember the stomach churning flick they used to play on WDBD called "Revenge of the Zombies?" (or something like that)It was a chinese dubbed film about this guy who would dig up dead women in the cemetary, drive a nail into their skull, which would make them beautiful and they would go out and work as hookers. One poor John was in the middle of doing his business and the spell wore off and he opened his eyes and realized he was screwing a rotting corpse. The film also had lots of worms under the skin, maggots, eyeball eating and various other nausiating stuff, I nearly hurled the first time I saw it. On top of all that, the "Pimp" that was sending these women out was keeping himself young by drinking breast milk. I kid you not. You didn't know where to laugh or puke. One of the craziest films I've ever seen on broadcast TV. Doe's anyone remember WDBD playing that?

Do you mean Morgus? He did a show on WGNO New Orleans for decades, and in Detroit for decades before that. He was still doing his show in New Orleans on public access until Katrina hit. According to his site, he's alright, but his show is off the air.

I think I do remember the Saturday night horror movies. I can't remember the host's name, but I do think it began with an M.

I remember it well. Does anybody else?

Wasn't it called "beyond" something?

The host was young (20s) and partially inspired me to enter broadcast one night that I met him as a child.
Now I remember, the show was called "One Step Beyond".

This is the power of the internet, a message forwarded many times that finaly reaches it's intended. Yes, The Count is still around, and has been around and around since those early days of television back in 1986. I am Count Yor Fingers, Bob Snell, and moved on to TV news and sports after my days in West Point. I worked in Biloxi, back to west point at WLOV, then WTVA, from there to Springfield, Mo, and am now in Jonesboro, Arkansas at KAIT as Asst. News Director and anchor the morning news from 5-7 am.

I remember the day the station general manager at WVSB came to me and said, "hey why don't you host a late horror movie show for us." I asked what he wanted and he said, "I don't care, just fill the time and have fun." And that's pretty much what we did. Critz Campbell, a Senior at West Point high and I pretty much created everything from scratch. It was called "One Step Beyond" and we had help putting the show on each week from one of Critz's friends and two production guys, Keith Kimmons and Brett Brewer, Coach Billy Brewer's son. We had a blast and couldn't wait to figure out what wacky stuff we would do the next week. We all played our roles and worked behind the scenes producing and taping the show.

As far as tapes, I think I have a VHS copy of some of the shows somewhere in my attic, but haven't watched it since I left in August of 1986 and as far as I know that's the only copy, unless someone taped it at home during the shows.

Thanks for remembering and reminding me of all the fun we had...I haven't thought about those days for a long time. We didn't know what we were doing all we knew was we were having fun. I am still shocked at how many people watched the show and even liked it. A friend of mine who lives in Oxford still calls me "The Count" to this day. We would get more than 100 letters a week for a viewer mail segment and one week got over 500.

And by the way, that wasn't a hand with eyes and a mouth drawn in, that was Critz's chin, with the camera turned upside down. It was Mr. B. Dunwithit and his movie review. And let's not forget other innovative camera shots, the punk rock 3-d slam cam, the nerf cam, and the bat cam... the world through the eyes of a bat. Obviuosly TV way ahead of the times.

Wow, I can't believe it! How cool! I'm sorry it took me so long see you had left a message, Bob. Do you have an email address?
