WVSU joins panel of Smooth Jazz Top 20 Countdown with Allen Kepler

WVSU is proud to join the reporting panel of the
Smooth Jazz Top 20 Countdown, a nationally-
syndicated program airing on the Smooth Jazz
Network.

The Top 20 Countdown can be heard each week
on WVSU - Fridays at 5 pm, with a replay each
Sunday at 1 pm.

WVSU listeners can help determine the top songs and artists nationwide, with your feedback on songs we play! Also, the Countdown will offer a "Feedback Track" each week to get your input on what may become the next hit song.

I think I am laughing hysterically over this. 7 years ago while serving as MD for a Smooth Jazz Non Comm here in town, I reached out to these folks for help in getting music to the station as we just went C Jazz 24-7. (Some of these geniuses were involved with Rendezvous Records) They blew us off because we were to small and on the non comm band. That was their reasoning! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO!!!

VSU has always been a solid well run station. Listen many times on my way to the beach. Just hope they are extremely cautious how much they open the door before they get input from, whatever the name of the day for the network is.

Nock

Any station that would add this or consider bringing in BA is already over-stations that live in the past and think it's going back to the way it was stand no chance of
making it in the future

No disagreements from here guys. WVSU is an excellent station without this, just hope it don't end up sounding like the sat feed or the listeners will know the difference and tune out.

Kelper is with his back against the wall and running out of options. Only finding home to his brand of "Smooth Jazz" on AM and translator stations. Looks like now he is going after the college stations. The Smooth AC format of his, isn't setting the world fire either. With just three stations, I think, WXJZ, KIFM, and WAUN.

To simply put it, (like many of us have already said) if want to continue to beat the same old dead horse, playing the same 300 song list, following the same formula that pretty much have left you without C/Smooth Jazz on the radio dial and don't try to reinvent yourself. Plus, have no local involvement with the area with you cover and find out you no longer have a job. Then stay away from this company. ::)

Agreed, guys. You know how I feel about charts and singles to begin with, let alone those handpicked by Mr. Smooth and his cronies. I give him credit for aggressively targeting smaller outlets...it's the ONLY thing he has left. But to Nock's point, there once was a day when small stations could not catch a cold from BA. Now the shoe is on the other foot, and sadly these independently run stations are way too anxious to take the bait. Mark my words. If they EVER come knocking on my door, however unlikely that is, they are going to be turned away faster than a door-to-door salesman.

How can these small stations afford to do business with BA. It's interesting as it's like "hello we're BA/We destroyed contemporary Jazz so why don't you come with us as now we're ready to business with you-It doesn't make sense.

The only thing that makes sense to me is that this is akin to that the high school prom queen you ALWAYS lusted but never had a snowball's chance in hell of dating. In fact, she never knew you even went to the same school. Then, out of the blue, she walks up to you in the cafeteria and invites you to her party on Saturday night. EVERYONE who is anyone in school is going to be there. You don't think to ask why she is asking YOU, of all people, to come to her party. You are so mesmerized that you got the invite, you don't really care to ask how this could happen. Just a theory, but maybe that is what is going on... :D
