I know this is a radio board, but I have yet to find a TV board dedicated to Louisiana.
I noticed this morning that WVUE in New Orleans is now broadcasting local news in HD. Their local field stories are shot in Widescreen HD, and their studio cams are now widescreen HD.
I guess this may spur a little competition between WGNO and WWL as to who can be next. WDSU does not count seeing as they have no faith in providing a local HD broadcast signal. They keep on asking for extensions (now mid 2008) for their DT channel, so the can build "Fort 6" 27 feet above sea level.
First, I'll say again that TV personalities such as Bob Breck, Jim Henderson and any news, sports, or weathercaster that cuts radio specific reports or is heard on the radio are also radio personalites as well as TV. So this discussion is certainly appropriate for a radio board.
Yes, DSU should either lose their license or get bought out by a company that's willing to spend the money.
What is so bad about 6's decision or just plain stupidity is that NBC has decided to embrace HD.
NBC Nightly News debuted in HD this March. NBC plans to have MSNBC HD fully up by mid 08.
NBC has greatly pushed all of the affiliates that they own to go 24/7 local HD.
I don't know if KING TV Seattle is NBC, because of radio I associate them with ABC, but KING Seattle even airs their weekend newscasts in HD.
Local TV stations are now at the place where the networks were a few years ago. Who's going to be the first to provide HD spots for local clients? Who's going to be the first to broadcast syndicated shows available in HD such as Jeopardy, Wheel, Oprah? Soon all syndicated programming will be available in HD.
I'm just a little surprised that 4WWL wasn't the first to go local HD, but I would bet they'd be second.
Weather Channel is spending $50 million on HD studios and also plans to be fully HD by mid 08.
Even the Vatican went HD with their broadcasts this past April 15th.
While passing through Cenla recently I was greatly disappointed to see the KALB removed their weather subchannel and have CBS programming on 5.2--but it's not in HD!
My question is: does anyone know how many HD stations can be broadcast from one signal? Can they only have one HD signal and the rest can only be SD? I've heard that 5KALB is just trying to get 10 KLFY Lafayette booted from the Alexandria cable system. KLFY has an HD signal but KALB's 5.2 is not HD.
Wow! Their news dept at KALB is about the worst it's ever been.

Wow,
You mean I can now see Bob Breck's wig is sharper detail than ever before! Not to mention his bad jokes that go back to Vaudeville acts thrown off of stage after one tomato was thrown! Let me go get my vomit bag.
Just think of the visual quality when he throws his next panic fit ahead of a hurricane, he might win an Oscar following in Al Gore's footsteps.
Thumbs up on the news and sports departments, they obviously do a good job while fighting off the smell of second-hand wig glue vapor, which hopefully the state legislature will ban from work places next after getting rid of smoking on the job.

Let me tell you something. I know Bob Breck screams too much and comes across as crazy sometimes, but did you know that some radio people look even worse?
I think walton & johnson have had artificial hair turf for about 15 years.
Pal al's hair plugs popped out on a flight some years ago.
That ryan garbage beamed in from Houston (at least until the company collapses soon) has a shaved head, wears earrings, Bermuda shorts, effeminate shirts and penny loafers to go with those rectangular frames that look like those worn by queens on E! channel dishing the dirt.
I won't even mention the large number of Jabba the Hut overweight hogs and wrinkled up fossils (not only w&j) that exist on New Orleans radio.
I won't also mention (here anyway) some of the cocaine skanks in programming, sales and promotions in New Orleans radio.
