WVUM temporarilly off the air

Miles per watt, my greatest DX catch ever:
May 1973, Gainesville FL
34.8 watts ERP

This would be a golden opportunity for this DXer to grab some new 90.5's. It's E-skip season, but MUF has not reached FM much lately.

Although I never actually heard the station, I got a decode this winter of XEDA-FM 90.5 Mexico City with HD1 readout! (I think WVUM audio was still there.) I believe XEDA is Mexico's first FM station using HD.

Of course it is impossible to DX WVUM in Gainesville now that WYFB, a class C1 FM, is on the air on the same frequency, having gone on the air in August 1985.

WYFB...is on the same frequency
And WREH is on a line between Coral Gables and Gainesville.

Although that is true, my point is co-channel WYFB is licensed to Gainesville and serves Gainesville which would make it even more impossible to DX anything else on 90.5 from Gatortown unless a very strange trop were to occur.

Last night, I heard Spirit FM out of Tampa on 90.5. Today there was brief E-skip & I was able to bag Radio Nacional de Venezuela (RNV) also on 90.5. I hope I can bag some more before "The Voice" returns.

Thanks to our OP for the heads up.

I've wondered how both Tampa & Gainesville both can manage having a 100 kW station on the same frequency, 90.5. Must be directional-antenna-city....

Remember Chris, there will always be someone, somewhere, way out there in the far recesses of the world who will get the thrill of his or her life by hearing that magical but barely audible sound way under the hiss, "This is The Voice, 90.5 WVUM, Coral Gables".

90.5 WVUM has returned to the South Florida airwaves, but as we moved and are driving a different vehicle, we are uncertain about their improved signal. Next time we get down that way, will look for a directional antenna favoring the north on that yellowish dorm building. Also, as our Radiosophy seems to be working just as well as the company that produced it (RIP), would someone please offer an analogue/digital report. Thanks.
