WVVT, ESSEX JCT, VT- MOVE TO E GREENBUSH,NY

Just saw in the daily digest on the FCC website where the unbuilt WVVT- 670AM for Essex Jct., VT has an application in to move to E. Greenbush, NY. The transmitter site is listed as on the WGDJ 1300 site. 15KW day, 11 KW critical, .26KW night , 2 towers day & critical, 4 at night. Wonder what Vandenburgh has up his sleeve with this?

Other then WGDJ leasing tower space to them, they have nothing to do with it.

Charles Hecht and Alfredo Alonso (former employee at Mega Communications) are the applications.

Even though there is nothing else licensed to Essex Junction, and WVVT would be the only service to the town, they can argue that because there's an applicaiton for a non commercial fm there, WVVT can be moved and no remove the only service to the town.

Just what we need , another radio station. It seems to me that they are going to be awfully short towers for 670AM. About an 1/8 wave, very inefficient. It is hard enough for a cluster of radio stations to survive. I can't see a stand alone. I will bet it will be up for sale!

It'll probably go spanish, that's what Charles Hecht and Alfredo Alonso are, well Alfredo at least is a spanish programmer.

In this market??? That seems pretty unlikely. That should be a pretty potent daytime signal too, with 15kw at 670 AM.

The towers are going to be short, about half as tall as they need to be, so itll be more like a 5KW or 6KW signal.. still decent though.

Just curious....Many years ago there was a 10kw directional AM station WXKW at 850 AM. Would it ever be possible to reactivate that frequency, or have too many co-channel stations signed on since that time?
I suspect that 850 in Boston and 850 near Montreal, as well as 850 in Cleveland existed in the days of WXKW. Does anybody have any thoughts about this???

GREAT! There's goes baseball season from The FAN! Up here in South Glens Falls the night signal from 980 is awful.

With a decent radio you should still be able to pull in WFAN in Glens Falls during the day, and at night 670 would be no factor up there...

I can’t answer your question specifically but they would have to start from square one and do a complete engineering study to see if there would be any co or adjacent channel interference issues , then they would apply to the FCC and see if there are any co or adjacent stations objecting . How long ago did this station go dark ? Where was it located?
FYI You should have posted this as a new thread if you want it to get noticed .I really has nothing to do with the topic here .

Dan Strassberg can weigh in with much more on the short but fascinating history of WXKW 850.

No, it couldn't be resuscitated now - first, because it was never able to be licensed in its original form, and second, because the subsequent arrival of WSBS on 860 over in Great Barrington would make it impossible.
