I understand this isn't unusual...but until this afternoon, I had never heard
820 WWBA here in Nashville. They were booming right until power/pattern change...
then nothing...working like it should. The reason I'm posting is I was listening on a
restored 1932-33 Philco Cathedral radio (anniversary gift from my wife). Heard a caller
from complaining about how run-down downtown St. Pete had become...
just found it fun to have heard this on an antique. BTW it looks even better!

820 forgot to switch to night power about 10 years ago...comes in nicely in Indiana when that happens. I called them & told them how great they were coming in up here...disappeared 3 minutes later...oops.

It sure *is* fun DXing on a tube radio, especially an antique, isn't it?!

Who restored it?

(I know there used to be a business down in Hillsboro Village that did that kind of thing, are they still there? I've got a 1926 RCA that could use a bit of cabinet work & some rewiring....)

Have heard WWBA a couple of times at sunset on more recent sets.
 
820 WWBA's December daytime hours are 7:15am - 5:45pm; January's daytime hours are 7:30am - 6pm. (February's hours will be 7:15am - 6:15pm)

I live about 22 miles s.s.e. of their towers and even though I am in one of their lobes and do receive them 24/7; when they switch from 50,000 to 1,000 watts (5:45pm this month), I immediately can hear Radio Reloj under them and then an hour or two later, I can hear WBAP as well as Radio Reloj under them.

I guess I don't really listen to them that often (other than to check their signal) as I wasn't even aware that they had any local programming that would be mentioning the condition of downtown St. Petersburg.

Their, what I though was their only local program, Morning Magazine ended this past Friday, the 18th of December); now they carry a Washington Times morning program.

I've found that WAMB sounds especially good on the Philco...just seems right. The restoration was
done by Lew Magrish in suburban Asheville, NC. It arrived packed in a box the size of a small refrigerator...
the box could have been dropped from a tall building with no damage to the radio inside. Fabric restored to original...
original knobs...dial calibration is perfect. Only problem is noise when switching from AM to SW...no big deal.

Excellent.

Unfortunately I can't see shipping my 1926 RCA to Asheville. (thing is almost as big as one of those 1950s console TV sets)
 
My dad has an old Philco radio that was my grandparents I don't think it works though
