Last night two guys were on the air acting like silly frat boys just giggling and snickering about the transgender woman refused service at a local bar. When is it "news" to ridicule private citizens on the air. OOPS, forgot the "slut" remarks coming out of Premier. Speaking as a crazy feminist, why is talk radio becoming the base of immature boys no matter their age.

Beats me, maybe because insensitive humor gets ratings. Which makes radio $$$$$. Which is partially the reason I don't listen to Talk Radio, nor shock jocks like Bubba for that matter.

Your not a radical feminist, your just a decent person who feels making fun of people is wrong.

"Becoming"? Talk radio's been this way for almost 30 years!

Didn't you hear? Bigotry is in. I heard Mason Dixon yesterday say that the Mexicans were taking over and if you were close to the border you better duck to not get shot. I thought this was family radio? Maybe the Manson family? What a shame.

Although I am certainly a liberal, conservatives used to get my respect. I read the National Review along with The Nation and New Republic. I still respect David Frum and George Will. Even Dick Cheney has saner moments than todays GOP. Seems like a very simple minded world view has taken over and stations like WWBA serve as showcases. I just tend to ignore Mason because Q105 plays more of the music I love than anybody else. although Marvelous Marv offers a more laid back alternative.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought the Q morning show includes a person of Hispanic decent?

I've Mason Dixon say a few things I thought were out of kilter.(sp?)

I suspect of the old time Top 40 jocks, Charlie VanDyke maybe the most liberal. I think

It really isn't a matter of liberal or conservative. It's a matter of respect for the other person. That's what's missing nowadays, and the country is suffering for it. Talk radio plays a big part in that, but it's coming from other sources as well. Part of the problem is that we're all looking for simple answers to complex questions.

All the bar had to do is call it "100% Ladies Night" - no more confusion. A 50% woman or a wanna-be woman not eligible

That's true it isn't politics. I'm a liberal myself but do have respect for like-minded people like Ron Paul. Regardless of politics you can show respect towards other people and quite frankly making fun of transgender people is wrong.

Its one thing for Talk Radio to have a right-wing slat. However its another to go this far out. To the point of catering to bigots.

The FACT is she/he had an official Florida ID that says she is female. Whether you think it's wrong or right, legally the person is "female" and therefore has every right to take part in the special. And in the grand scheme of things.... really, how much money were they losing in serving a few more free well drinks. Nothing and not worth the hassle in my honest opinion.

But back to the topic here about the radio station. Pretty lame topic and amateur in my opinion, but that's no surprise coming from WWBA.

The bar apologized. Will the night guys on WWBA do the same?

Two things... first on the issue of the transgender "woman" being refused free drinks... let me just say I think the whole concept of "ladies night" is offensive and kind of creepy... but what is the intended purpose of "ladies night" anyway? To get ladies drunk so its easier for men to bed them, right? How many straight men do you know that want to sleep with a transgendered woman? And even if the government considers her a woman, why should I have to???

As far as WWBA... You haven't exactly told us what they said that was so offensive. What's wrong with getting a few laughs at this event? Personally, as an occasional patron of Bishop's Tavern, I find it a little amusing myself... oh well. As much as you can argue that we're becoming too insensitive, I think I can argue that we're becoming too politically correct. Ok, I'm back out...

To respond: The two talk jocks (?) were making fun of the idea of going into a bar and picking up a "chick with a dick" by mistake. This line of banter is very insulting to people like a subject. If they were making fun of a public figure like Ru Paul, Chaz Bono, or even Steven Tyler-----I don't care. This not a public figure, a poltician, or a pundit they were laughing at, but a private citizen who did not intend to make news. Now if this person should decide to use this event to become an activist, pundit, or American Idol contestant, then they are fair game.

We wouldn't even know about this story if the "woman" didn't give interviews to newspapers or participate in creating a facebook group. If "she" feels "she" was wronged then I totally support "her" standing up for "her" rights... but I think that makes "her" fair game for criticism or jokes. Once you go public about something like this, you're just that... public. I totally support the rights of transgendered people, but this whole story strikes me as ridiculous, especially if you've ever gone to Bishop's on ladies night...

Now, if the hosts in question used the phrase "chick with a dick", I believe that IS actionable, and you could report that to the FCC. Strange world we live in huh?
