Subject: Tampa Bay Friends, I'm Hiring
Body: ESPN 1470 Tampa Bay On-air/Producer Talent
Tampa Bay’s ESPN 1470 is in need of an experienced “jack of all trades.” Can you run a board? Can you write and deliver a sports update? Do you know how to track down and book big name guests? Are you a production wiz? Can you also be a leader when required? ...

So?

MySpace is a good way to find eager, young, hip, and socio-techno savvy people looking to work in the media field.

Only geezers still thumb through their print copies of Radio & Records (that they paid way too much for) looking for jobs. I bet they even a fresh copy of their "T&R" ready to overnight to some PD at all times.

I don't even entertain the idea of hiring people who can't e-mail their mp3 aircheck or at least a link to a streamed aircheck.

Whatever recruiting methods he's using, Silva seems to be building a nucleus of interesting hosts at WWBA.

Scott Farrell, Pete Caruana and Dan York are doing actual local talk radio that is non-brokered in off hours, getting the chance to sharpen their skills. They haven't developed into latter-day Lassiters or Normans yet... but it's the most excitement we've seen in Tampa Bay talk radio since WFLA decided to become a translator and/or syndication incubator around 1999. If a syndicated show or two goes away... Silva will have well-practiced people to plug in to those slots. It's the first effort at talk radio talent development around here since WSUN went away in the mid-90's.

Too bad Silva doesn't have an army of billboards to blast his hosts into public consciousness the way WFLA did exactly 20 years ago.

I have to agree with the last two posts. I work for Dro and he's doing a good job. Before Dro was PD there was never any talk about how to get better and things were kind of just the same day after day. And this is coming from a guy who loved Brad James. When Brad stepped down I really thought it was the worst thing that could happen for me at WHBO, but Dro has been just as good in my opinion

You folks at 1040 and Tampa talk radio afficianados are all so self serving. I worked with Lionel back in 1991-02 at WFLA, that was local radio. So was Lassiter. But, listening to Dro Silva drone on about stories that are already in the daily newspapers is so mundane. The Dan guys are inarticulate, and inane. And, truly offensive - to women and minorities especially. Farrell is also useless local radio. I would rather hear syndicated that sparks intelligence then these useless "local joes - or Droe's", as the case may be, that you seem so enamored with. That is why 1040 remains arbitron numberless - aside from delivery issues. News coveragte with Shayna Lance and Sommers is also bush league. Check out the website -- it continues to advertise a "Lawyers Seminar" that was held last July! Yet, they employ five people in charge of web advancement. Wake up!!

How dare you comment on Brad James -- 20+ years at Clear Channel -- left 1040
because of all the BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Broadcast group, Genesis is barely hanging on
---- leaking dollars live a sieve -- in excess of a million a year!

As I said, these are no Lassiters. But somebody has to prepare the soil. It's been deprived of nutrients and there's been a drought for a long time. There's a lot of trial and error involved. That's why they're plowing the fields on the weekends, for now. 1040 probably needs to extend its recruiting pool beyond Generation Snarl. Believe me, I'm no fan of 1040's ownership or business approach. But somebody has to start somewhere. Lionel wouldn't have gotten a shot were it not for a lot of people before him who threw stuff on the wall to see if it stuck or not.

Fair enough. Let the folks know when you find some, amidst all the inane Limbaugh clones out there (Hannity, Rusty Humphries, et. al.).

Laura Ingram to 1040AM. Where will they put her?
Are they giving up on the so called local "talent" experiment.
She also goes on Genesis / Orlando, where all or most of thier brokered shows have cancelled.
