WWBK-Brunswick -----> now ----> WCME

For the record, effective today, Brunswick's AM station on 900 (not on the air yet) is now WCME. That's the callsign that 900 used in the first 1 or 2 decades of its life; before it was WKXA, WCLZ, and a few others.

The callsign, WCME was given up by the Boothbay Harbour FM station a week or so before application was put in (last week) for the Brunswick statiuon to get the WCME callsign.

WCME: C[/u]oast of Maine .

As a fan, I like it when stations reclaim the heritage of their original call signs, especially AM's. Most people remember the stations by the original call sign anyway.. Why companies dump heritage call signs, especially those that are decades old, or even those of the three letter variety is beyond me.. ???

I worked at the old WCME in the late 60's. Great memories! I did the morning show there from '66-'70. Wonder where the ole gang is now--Cam Smith, Bill McKeen, Rick Clarke, Walter Thomes, Jim Roberts, Bob Dean, Roger Doran and no doubt, many others whose names escape me right now.

Hopefully the station can find its place in todays' radio.
