WWBW-LP Norwich

The subject line above is basically all they've had to say for some time. What's the deal with 96.9 WWBW-LP Norwich anyway? They're across the river from Mohegan Sun, but have a Higganum address. For months, they have been shuffling various assorted greatest hits albums, sometimes replaying songs 3 times back to back, with some stuff played at inexplicably slow speed with a nasty buzz that sounds like someone hooked up the CD jack wrong! WHBE Long Island moves from 96.7 to 96.9 Friday. With severe interference guaranteed from New London up past Norwich, are they (or 96.9 in Ashaway, RI for that matter) considering moving to 97.1 or 96.7? Are they ever signing on with any real programming besides stunting?

WWBW comes in well in the northern part of Montville and southern half of Norwich. There are almost 5000 Chinese residents there. Noncomm or not, it sounds like a ready-made audience!
Edited by CT Radio Guy on 02/09/06 03:58 PM.

They are almost 20 miles to the west in the WRONG direction as I recall.

If they were located where they were supposed to be, there wouldn't be any interference when that station moves from 96.7 to 96.9!

WWBW-LP is 20 miles east of where it really should be. Check out the map of where the WWBW-LP transmitter IS, then go map Higganum. Thats where it SHOULD BE!

Re: WWBW-LP Higganum/Norwich?

WHBE is now on 96.9 and coming in loud and pretty clear from Colchester to parts of Montville, CT as of Friday. There was carrier on but dead air from WWBW-LP on the same frequency. As soon as I got to the top of the Route 32 hill past the Montville Commons shopping center construction in Uncasville, WHBE was cutting in more often than not and tearing up WWBW-LP. That's less than a mile from the WWBW tower by the old Norwich Hospital. If WWBW is 20 miles east of where they should be and their city of license is Higganum and not as they ID themselves in Norwich through months of stunting, they need to pack up their stuff and move that U-Haul west down the length of Route 82! Maybe it will have some signal radius there.

Re: WWBW-LP Higganum/Norwich?

It SHOULD be in Higganum. They filed to move to Norwich even though the rules say they have to put the signal over Higganum, also where the principals live. The FCC screwed up and let this through without doing any checking of the parameters. They FCC is aware of their error. It will be interesting to see how the FCC handles their own mistake!

Do keep in mind that there's no city of license coverage requirement in the LPFM rules (or for noncommercial FMs in general), so while it's odd that they're 20 miles away from Higganum, as long as the spacings work, they're not necessarily doing anything against the rules.
______________

Re: WWBW-LP Higganum/Norwich?

Both my phone call (left a message) and my email to WWBW went un-answered. The phone # for WWBW goes to what appears to be someones house. I bet these people are just playing radio.........

Re: WWBW-LP Higganum/Norwich?

WWBW is playing in a very limited arena if they stay on the Norwich/Preston line across from Mohegan Sun. With WHBE now on 96.9, you can hear interference less than a mile from WWBW's transmitter, which has been broadcasting dead carrier since WHBE's move. By Uncasville and Gales Ferry, it's all Long Island. Also, I can't imagine 96.9 WBLQ-LP/Ashaway, RI not having its signal severely reduced by WHBE's move. There's low power and then there's this clutter, whether WHBE wants a CT presence (like WMOS) or not.

Re: WWBW-LP Higganum/Norwich?

They are still required to have the transmitter within a 10 mile radius of the principals of the ownership. There are two people listed as owners and they live no where near the 10 mile limit. One owner is on the western side of the state. Neither of them live within 10 miles of this transmitter location.

Re: WWBW-LP Higganum/Norwich?

Like I said, ased upon the fact they cant e bothered to return a simple email or phone cal land this goes to someones house, WWBW is someone playing radio. y the way, the number mwas a 203 area code.
