WWCD is now officially exclusively calling itself "CD 102-5"

For the past few months, WWCD (formerly "CD101" and "CD101 @ 102-5") has been referring to itself as "102-5, The Alternative Station". That all ended this morning, June 1st, as all of the DJ's are referring to the station as "CD 102-5".

They also relaunched their facebook page late last night.

The guy in the "CD 102.5" van told me they have officially started calling WWCD "CD 102-5" as of June 1, 2012. When I pointed
out to him the CD101 logo at the back of the truck, he told me the van will be repainted in time for this weeks Comfest
without any reference to CD101.

Is the the very last(The van) of any reference to CD101? Did tOSU finally send them a cease and desist order on using
CD101 in any references to the station?

I think most of their loyal listeners will always refer to CD102.5 as CD101 instead of CD102.5. I think they should have named it CD102 and called it a day.

Maybe they should hedge their bets by going straight down the middle with "CD101.75." Since that's less than 1 mhz from either 101 or 102.5 and still gets the old "101" in there, it should be acceptable to partisans of either frequency.

LOL that works too!

I went to the Foster the People show at the LC Pavilion on June 1st (the first day of the change) and there were plastic signs hanging on the truck with the "102-5" logo over where it said "CD101 @ 102.5" before. The van had a new paint job when I saw it on Saturday when it was driven down High Street during the annual Columbus Pride parade. There is no sign of CD101 anywhere on the newly-painted truck.

There is an "Adopt-a-Highway" sign on Northbound Riverside Drive that still lists "WWCD 101.1 FM" on it along with two CD101 stickers on it. Does anyone know what sign I am talking about? This may be the last reference to the 101.1 frequency.

What about CD103? That really has a nice ring to it. If 94.7 can call itself Sunny 95, why can't 102.5 call itself CD103?

They probably could...especially in the old days of analog tuners everyone rounded up or down to the nearest .0 MHz

QFM96 is another good example. I remember there was a Z103 and an EZ108 back in the day. Shoot even 105.7 and 107.1 used to be called Hot 105 / Hot 107.

WNCI was "Stereo 98" a long long time ago :)

As promised, WWCD has taken off any and all references to CD101 on its "Ice Cream truck" as of last week.
I saw this with my own eyes last Friday at Comfest. But the WWCD promotions director reminded me the station did not have to do this. Not sure why, I thought this was part of the agreement of theirs to sell 101.1 FM to The Ohio State University. tOSU wanted them to give
up using any and all references to CD101 when they purchased 101.1 FM from WWCD.

Speaking of the "Ice Cream truck", I did enjoy free ice cream they gave out two weeks ago
in park at the CD102.5 "Ice Cream truck".

That ice cream truck is one of the nicest promotional tools i've seen... They have been to my employer a few times.. no matter if you like CD101 err 102.5 I admit it's always a nice treat.. and always a big hit with everyone.

It's probably because it is NOT a big deal.

I had trouble picking up 102.5 in the car this evening in the Dublin area. This has never happened to me before and I listen to the station all the time. It sounds like another 102.5 may be overpowering it up this way. It also could be a freakish combination of atmospheric conditions. 102.5 should be heard clearly in the Dublin area.

Is anyone else having trouble picking the station up in the Dublin area?

Never was able to pick up 102.5 well in Dublin and I find their overall sound lacking. It always sounds like it's missing some bass frequencies. 106.7 definitely sounds better unless I'm near Twin Rivers / 670 / 315.

I am not talking about sound quality. I am talking about static and interference.

It is back to normal now.

This time of the summer is very unkind to FM Radio stations... Atmospheric conditions can cause even the higher powered stations to be overpowered by distant FM Signals for brief periods of times.

For instance, many summers ago I caught KGNZ from Texas coming in like a "local" in Fairfield county.

The other day I was able to listen to WKEE 100.5 FM like a local thru Upper Arlington on my way to the west side.. also at that time WTCR 103.3 was coming in like a local.
