WWCR

When I mapquested the street address "8207 Concord Road," I took a look at the aerial photograph of that area, and it certainly indeed looked like that star was right on top of the Brentwood YMCA, just west of Wilson Pike. I suppose that could have been the site of a radio station back in the day.

As for the current (shortwave) WWCR, I, too, have long wondered why they don't buy out the Veach's eyesore junkyard directly in front of their station. That property has been, and may still be, for sale. I've seen signs there in the last year or so. They should buy up that property and give themselves a protective buffer now, before property values skyrocket out that way, and Ashland City Highway becomes the next Gallatin Road! Meanwhile, they could recoup some of that investment by selling a strip of land along the river to metro, for a greenway.

On a related note, does anyone remember when the programming of WWCR (the shortwave one) was actually good? They had a variety of shows including the legal pirate show "Radio New York International." Last time I heard WWCR it was wall-to-wall preaching.

Hence the call letters, World Wide Christian Radio. George McClintcock, the previous manager, would take any programming he could. Obviously the current management is more selective!
