WWE RAW WAS AWFUL AGAIN

IT'S OFFICIAL THE WWE HAS RUN OUT OF STORYLINES! ???

MIKE ADAMLE AS RAW GENERAL MANAGER

WELL AT LEAST THEY GOT MORE OUT OF HIM LAST NIGHT THEN THEY HAVE IN THE LAST SEVEN MONTHS ::)

I know, the writers and bookers come out with the outcomes, but I guess they were sleeping on the job last night.

If most of the matches weren't bad (execpt for CM Punk & Cena/Batista's matches), then it was the buildups that

screwed up. If Dibiase & Rhodes aren't going to wrestle Hacksaw Jim Duggan, then don't BUILD IT UP PLEASE :D

I also know that Michael Cole will return next week to Raw and JR will be on Smackdown on Fridays as well as SNME on NBC this Saturday.

But I give this episode of Raw a 2 out of 5   mad faces.

How can you possibly criticize something that is pure fantasy to begin with (as you point out in your post)?

In book terms it seems like you are dissing a novel because it isn't 'real' enough.

I don't get it.

My beef is that it is like a great book itself. If you don't like it after a few pages, then you stop reading it.

I guess I was like that with last night's episode since they made Michael Cole the Ultimate Crash Test Dummy last night FOR NO REASON ???!

There were a "few" good things on Raw:

1. A recurring GM FINALLY ON RAW even though it's not what I thought it was (Eric Bischoff)

2. CM Punk vs. William Regal (Best match of the night)

3. Chris Jericho's killer promo in which he officially turned heel if he didn't already.

4. Seeing John Cena and Batista in a match together is worth all the other crap that was on.

So I'm kinda criticizing something, but knowing what it is in real life!

I hope that makes some sense.

Um.....I guess. I really lost interest in 'professional' wrestling back in the 50's when my dad took me to see Georgeous George and he entered the ring tossing out gold hairpins.

I did have a brief relapse during college though when Saturday afternoons were spent 'studying' in front of a TV showing that little old lady in the first row bashing Gorilla Monsoon over the head with a folding chair.....when Roller Derby wasn't on, of course. ;D

Yes, the July 28th edition was awful to say the least. Outside of Steven Regal coming off of his suspension and Chris Jericho's very strong promo, the rest was a throwaway.

On a side note, the HHH household keeps growing. Paul "HHH" Levesque, who turned 39 on Sunday, helped welcome their second daughter together on Monday. Stephanie McMahon Levesque gave birth to Murphy, an 8 pound 12 ounce baby girl.

I prefer the days of Chief Jay Strongbow, when Bruno was one of the announcers, and when we were done airing the shows, we actually sent the tapes back to Vince's house!

Um...then I guess TV, movie, book and any other type of critic should cease to exist and we should never critique anything else that we consume as entertainment either...right?

As for RAW, it wasn't terrible. Adamle will get the Vickie Guerrero type heat. I think they didn't want 2 face GMs, now that Vickie has sort of turned heel.

I for one hope they save Cena vs Batista until Wrestlemania...One thing I can't stand about the WWE is the constant rematches...like what's the point? We all know they will wrestle again the next month--but this time it's NO DQ...

And WWE in general is going to get more awful; they hired Freddie Prinze Jr. (yes, Mr. Sarah Michelle Gellar himself!) as a member of their Creative Team...or make that UNcreative?

Can you say "David Arquette", boys and girls???

Ok, difference here bud is that Arquette was used as a cross promotion for an ill fated in house Turner movie, and was given the strap. Thats a far cry from hiring an actor as a writer who, chances are will not be seen much, if at all.

I ll buy into that they are trying to get to hollywood through a "Six degrees" type of relationship vis a vis Prinze and Gellar.

Raw will flounder for a bit as Batista, Cena, Jericho et al try to help CM Punk and, sigh..Mike Adamle.\\ This would be a great opportunity to upgrade the tag division with Cody Rhodes , Ted DiBiase and perhaps Carlito as a second generation Rat Pack (see: Bill Watts Mid South Duggan/Williams DiBiase)

I don't quite understand still what Adamle has to offer, unless they put him as GM to get him away from a microphone, except for the occasional "Hiya Dave, how ya doin" lol ....

Smackdown is gearing up for an over the air network switch, which is why HHH, Taker, Edge etc are on the so called B Brand. Theyll be fine. However, taking the tag straps off Miz and Morrison for the plane jane Edge knockoffs of Hawkins and Ryder was a huge mistake. At least Miz and Morrision have some personality.

I almost wish they would kill off ECW for a new AWA..since they own all the copy rights.

BTW, you want to see some really bad shows, try ESPN Classic at midnight. The last gasps of the AWA circa 1990 wiith the Team Challenge Series, featuring a young Eric Bischoff wiith a hairstyle that would make a Badger fall in love...

I don't think Prinze will be any worse than the failed sitcom writers who "book" WWE now.

(BTW, I remember you from atbvs back in the day. Small world, huh?)

Not to mention that the same people that are booking WWE right now booked the WORST SATURDAY NIGHT'S MAIN EVENT EVER LAST NIGHT

ONE HOUR ??? :D

AND NOT TO MENTION THAT IT WAS ALL BAD GUYS WINNING ALL THE TIME

THIS IS GOING TO BE ANOTHER LONG AND BORING YEAR FOR THE WWE. :'(

I hope Freddie Prinze Jr. knows what he's getting himself into. :p

They maybe part-time actors, but it isn't like a big flick action movie ALL THE TIME EITHER ::)

WOW....can you not overreact once? It's not their fault they only got 1 hour. Also wasnt the old SNME a 1 hour show? And so what if the heels win...the only match where it would have made sense for the faces to win was the 8 man tag.

If the WWE has one major fault, it is that they tend to let the heels win too much.

During the so-called "Attitude Era", late 90s-early 2000s, there was a storyline where Billion Dollar Princess Stephanie McMahon secretly married Triple H, and the two of them took over running the then-WWF. For several months, only the heels won. Even on PPVs, it was all heels, and fans complained. At TV tapings, fans were paying $30-40 to sit on their hands and have nothing to cheer for.

Finally, Vince got a clue and started increasing wins by the faces. When that started happening, one major wrestling website put in big letters "IT'S ABOUT TIME!"

I realize that without the villian, you don't have a show, but this was way too much.

Ted Turner's WCW missed out on a golden opportunity to capitalize while this was going on. In their continuing efforts at copying the WWF, they too had a heels-dominant period going on at the same time. They blew a great chance at gaining fans that the WWF were alienating. One of many reasons that WCW is no longer in business.

Heels still tend to dominate present day shows, but the WWE hasn't done a totally heels program since then. I'm guessing that while they wouldn't admit it, they know they made a mistake before.

I disagree about heels winning all the time.

Example: John Cena went over on JBL at every PPV before this most recent one.

I think they do a good balance of letting the heels and faces win. It's sort of whatever makes the storyline work...

If anything, I'd say they let faces win too much. Why do you think the crowds boo the faces so much these days? They hate John Cena in most places. Batista gets boos from time to time...C.M. Punk gets it as well, so...

The key words are "...before this most recent one."

Yes, Cena gets booed. Yes, Batista gets booed. Maybe even C.M. Punk. But, at the height of Hulkamania, Hulk Hogan would get booed by some. Both Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock got booed when they were supposed to be the good guys. The hometown Dodgers get booed by their own fans. My beloved UCLA Bruins were booed loudly off the Rose Bowl field after losing what was supposed to be a slam dunk game against Notre Dame last year. I was one of the people booing. And I'm still a Bruin fan.

It's all perception. Seems those fellows mentioned still get mostly cheers. There still needs to be a balance of face/heel wins. Like I mentioned in my earlier post, fans got tired of seeing the heels always going over.

Well, this week's Raw was I can say without overreacting: A LOT BETTER THAN LAST WEEK!

3 Championship matches, Kane getting a great promo, the writers finally put Adamle to work, and selling storylines like they should.

JBL will make a great heel world heavyweight champion if he wins at Summerslam, although they give Chris Jericho no consolation prize again for not

winning last night.

Cena and Batista as tag champs is following the sucessful formula from Wrestlemania 23 when Cena and HBK were tag champs. This will no doubt be

the biggest match on the card for sure.

I give this episode of Raw 4 ;D ;D ;D ;D out of 5.

Saturday Night's Main Event was always a 90-minute show from its 1985 debut until 1990. There were three live one-hour The Main Event specials in prime time in February 1988, 1989 and 1990. A special that was originally taped as a Saturday Night's Main Event in November 1990 was changed to a 1-hour The Main Event that aired on a Friday at 10 PM. NBC's last show for a while aired from Omaha in April of 1991. Some time lapsed and in 1992, the series came back as two one-hour prime time specials for FOX. The franchise finally returned to NBC in winter of 2006 with at least three 90 minute specials. Then came this past week's show taped on Monday along with WWE Raw, hence the generic white ropes instead of the black ropes you'd normally see on a Monday.

Cena vs Batista although I am lookin forward to is rushed. It would've been the biggest match in years if they met at Wrestlemania--having never met before.

That's what is missing from Wrestlemania these days...no long drawn out build ups to make the match have anticipation.

God I'm old, the last time I watched wrestling was when the Von Erichs were stars and it was out of Texas. I did love Sunshine and Precious though.

:)

Sunshine (Victoria French) is now running her own bakery in the Tampa area. She still looks good! :)

She is the real-life cousin of Jimmy Garvin.
