Maryland WWGB Daytimer AM 1030 Going Silent

Filed today is a two-part "Silent Notification". Could the end be near for the three-stick 50 kw true-daytimer?

Here's some of the verbiage in their filings:

"The licensee is providing notice that Station WWGB, Indian Head, Maryland, Facility ID
No. 71245, ceased broadcasting on July 17, 2026 due to financial reasons."

"The licensee requests special temporary authority for the Station to remain silent past
the expiration of the thirty-day period ending August 16, 2026. Authorization for an
additional 180 days is respectfully requested to allow the licensee sufficient time to
investigate future options for the Station."
 
When 1030 was operating as Arabic-language WNTL they even carried BBC World Service News in English during the weekday mornings. I imagine WWGB's power bill and the land lease alone makes this a non-starter these days.
 
I'm not sure how valuable that land is. It's in kind of a rural, still, area of Charles County. Maybe when 540 moves from across the bay we will have the twin towers of power 540 and 1030 doing something unique. Very doubtful.
