WWGV 88.1 is under construction

American Family Radios, WWGV 88.1, Grove City, OH is under construction and hopes to be on the air by the end of February. This is via an email from the American Family office.

This will be the end of the WCDR translator on 88.1 but there has been some speculation on this board that
WCDR may wind up on 91.5 FM in the near future.

If not, this will be one more full power religious station for Columbus.

I wonder if the River would ever consider cutting a deal to float on down to a decent signal at that end of the dial, freeing up their current decent signal for formats that won't work as non-comms ?  Or does a substantial portion of the River's financial support come from commercials?

WCVO went commercial a few years back, I really doubt they would give up that license to go back to being a non-comm. If you listen to their spotblocks they run car dealers, walmart and all the major ads that you would find on most commercial stations.

I believe that this will happen... Right after the Browns win the super bowl! :D

But really... gotta wonder if Dan is trying to get his hand on a station in Cbus to put the new "Promise Radio Network" on, or the "Pro Talk" format. 91.5 would be a good fit. Although many would die to see the 80's format come back, I really doubt it will happen.

While on the topic... with salem auctioning off properties, any word if they will be keeping 880 AM? I could see how this would be a good outfit for CVCO too.

I would imagine Salem is trying their VERY HARD to persuade WCVO to move to one of those frequencies so they could pick up the Fm...if not I am certain their is a very hot hotline between Salem and CC about picking up one of the 25 stations CC has in the Columbus market.

When Salem gets another station they will probably put their "NEW/TALK" format on it and make a legit attempt at going at WTVN.

With WJJE Delaware 89.1 to the north of Columbus and 88.1 WWGV Grove City to the south, American Family Assoc. will have decent coverage in Columbus.

What format is American Family Association presenting...aren't they mostly teaching?

They have a few different formats. the format of the station WJJE 89.1 is their main format which is AC/Inspo/ministries.

They are along the lines of 'The path' with a mix of things.

It looks like the Path won't be moving to 91.5 FM in Columbus. This is an email from the The Path:

Artie,

Unfortunately, after fourteen years of ministering to the Columbus community through radio airwaves, The PATH will no longer broadcast on the 88.1 fm frequency. The PATH on 88.1 fm is a translator station recognized by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as a secondary station. Another broadcaster, that has primary transmitter status, has been given FCC permission to broadcast on 88.1 fm in Columbus. Therefore, The PATH will surrender its 88.1 fm frequency in late February. Please remember that you can continue to listen to The PATH’s great music, biblical teaching, and kingdom-focused news on the internet at www.ThePath.fm, on 101.9 fm in north Columbus, 90.1 fm in Chillicothe, and 90.3 fm in the Dayton and Springfield areas. Furthermore, should the Lord open another frequency for The PATH in the Columbus community, we will certainly pursue those possibilities.

"WHKC switched formats to become the only religious talk station in the Columbus market."

Is that an inaccuracy to which you speak?

That was one of them. The other being that they flipped to "contemporary music" and conveniently left out "Christian" between the other two words.

Perhaps it should have said something about being the "only religious FM talk station in the Columbus market".

Oh yes we need more James Dobson complaining and fear mongering about gays. I wonder why would Salem need another station since they don't know how to run a commercial radio station. Look at there recent radio ratings. Too bad there isn't a full power Pacifica radio station. I have to used a amplified FM/SW antenna to pick up WCRS LPFM.

Ratings? The "ratings" have always shown, recently, Salem (I assume you are talking about WRFD-AM) running between a 0.4 to a 0.9. I would be interested to see how similar stations, in the same format, are performing. I would doubt that many of them, that are AM, can stake claim to much more than a 0.9. Even most of the Christian Talk FM stations never reach more than a 1.5. Now throw in the fact that they are a daytime only signal and consider they perform three months out of the year without a morning drive and two months without an afternoon drive. I am not going to throw a parade for the station, but I do, at least, have to respect what they are able to accomplish with what they have.

They may not be going away afterall.

They petitioned their dismissal and were granted a construction permit today. W201AK, Columbus will now be known as W202CC, Columbus on 88.3mhz. Still at 10 watts, their pattern looks to be strongly north (10 degrees) by a log perodic antenna.

The Path has on air announcements about the move to 88.3 as of this Thursday morning.
In preparation for the move on Thursday, they will be off the air as of Wednesday morning.
