WWHB PD Larry Miller update

Just in case you missed the post...see Where Are They Now Board (dated 10-03-05). I believe Larry was the first PD of WWHB 107.1 and their morning man.

You are correct! My old college buddy Dennis told me that WWHB was looking for jocks, so I sent a WGLI aircheck to him, and heard back a week or so later. I drove out to see him, and our interview consisted of having lunch at the diner, and then driving around Hampton Bays smoking pot. We then went back to his house, where I met his girlfriend.

Larry offered me weekends, and to work on the logs during the week. That worked well at first, but then the overnight guy hurt his back, and I was working from 11PM-6AM, and then going back to the rooming house in Riverhead and trying to get some sleep, and then get back to the station around 11AM. Needless to say, that didn't work out, and Larry had a "bit" of a temper. After missing ABC top of the hour news two nights in a row, he had a screaming hissy fit and fired me. It also turned out I was making a ton of money with all the hours I was putting in, and blowing his budget, and making more money than him!LOL!

I heard from Rob Dipetro awhile back, who also worked at WWHB, and he told me that everyone wondered what happened to me...we had a good laugh over that!

I also got to work with the lovely, late Robin Taylor, who did 6-11PM. What a nice lady to work with. I also remember working with Nina Fenton and Santo Curcio...I wonder what they are up to? Guess I'll post that on the WATN Board. Thanks for letting me reminice. I had nightmares about that station for years afterward.
______________

Nina Fenton has her own advertising business, Fenton Creative. When last I heard from Santo, he was in Georgia working for Bloomberg Radio.

Did you also work with Randy (Taylor) Bachmann? Or did she come on board later? She now works in Lehigh Acres FL @ http://www.smoothjazz1071.com/ weekdays 2-6PM ET. And here's the streaming link: http://ccri.eonstreams.com/ccri_fl_ftmyers_wzjz_fm.asf

The Robin Taylor that worked at WWHB and the one mentioned here are TOTALLY different people. Robin Taylor from WWHB and Lite FM died about a year ago. The other correction I have to make is this...I don't think the Larry Miller mentioned in the 10-3-05 WATN post is the same Larry Miller. I looked at his picture, and it didn't look like the same guy. I believe there was a West Coast Larry Miller, and the New York Larry Miller, who programmed WKTU and WQIV in addition to WWHB. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me. Thanks!
______________

Per Matt....the Larry Miller mentioned on WATN BOARD isn't the same Larry Miller of WWHB fame.

Randy Taylor of WBLI

I believe Randy Taylor was at WWHB during the Jack Kratoville days. Always enjoyed Randy when she did PM drive at WBLI. "Gotta say chow for now!"

She jumped from BLI to WXLO with BLI's Jeff Thomas & Jerry St. James.

Randi came back to HB around 1985 or 86 I think she was doing mornings (my memory's not what it used to be). She went to middays and became P.D. in '87 when Rob Poulin departed, and I ended up doing mornings paired with TK Townshend.

You try hitting the top of the hour when you haven't gotten any sleep in three or four days!

To clear up the Randy Taylor thing...the WWHB/WLTW one was a lovely Africn-American lady who did NOT work at WBLI like the other caucasian Randy Taylor-Bachmann.

Heck, I was only there two weeks...this Larry Miller was a nut who was past his "radio prime" when I met him. To bad I wasn't there when Jack Kratoville was there. Oh well...
______________

This (above) is the Larry Miller that I posted about on the WATN board, who recently began a weekly airshift on the 1960's/70's music show "Lost & Found" on the non-commercial college/community station WMBR at MIT in Cambridge, MA in early October.

He was a pioneering DJ of "FM underground" album rock radio on the west coast at KMPX San Francisco in 1967, and he's now recreating that music and style on this non-commercial specialty show in the Boston area.

It is NOT the same Larry Miller who was at WKTU, WQIV and WWHB, though the two did encounter one another in the early 70's when this Larry was in the area!
