WWIQ Weekends

Does anyone know what the broadcast lineup is for the weekend? Their websited doesn't seem to address the weekend schedule.

Around noon on a Saturday I heard them running a legal show hosted by a guy who said his dream would be a whole hour of callers to whom he could say "You have no case," which seems to be his catchphrase. Since pulling the wings off of flies isn't my idea of entertainment I changed the station. At other times I've heard typical weekend syndicated product there, like Bob Brinker's money show and some home improvement-type program.

Sounds like "Handel On The Law" is what you heard. Premiere-syndicated show out of L.A. Live in late mornings.

Handel is great. He doesn't take the whole "radio lawyer" thing so seriously, and during the week he does a pretty good local morning drive show in LA. The fact that he'll tell someone with a stupid case that they're an idiot is part of the fun.

Nothing brokered, just Premiere's weekend offerings-Leo Laporte (the tech guy), Handel on the Law, a lot of Dave Ramsey, and Bill Cunningham live Sunday nights.

I wish they would take coast 2 coast am from WPHT-AM

Could happen. Besides, CBS has an overnight offering that airs on KMOX and KDKA among others. Likely the net brass would love to get PHT on board with that.

I believe the CBS all-night show is airing now on IQ. Yeah, wacky.

Perhaps the music should come out to play on the weekends. It works for NJ 101.5.

I agree. 106.9 should play 50s/60s Oldies on weekends. Philadelphia needs a station like WMID.
The talk audience trends older, but not that old.

And there are plentiful sources of music off-dial offering targeted formats which is why terrestrial FM is starting to transition away from music toward unique content - news, talk, sports, business. No reason for a station already in a unique format to shut it down on weekends. Some of the weekend talk programming - Leo LaPorte and best-ofs in particular - is entertaining to those who appreciate the format. And music fans would go somewhere else the other 5 days of the week.

Niche music formats fans can get more of what they want from the internet and satellite than they ever could from terrestrial radio. And dropping unique content for an unrelated mass music format on FM doesn't make as much sense in 2012 as it might have 10, 15 years ago. There's a totally different media landscape today.

There are two audiences for overnight radio: those falling asleep and those staying awake. It makes sense for IQ to counterprogram Coast to Coast with a show like Overnight America. CTC is background fluff that you fall asleep to while OA is a substance-driven foreground show designed to keep listeners awake and engaged. Two unique sets of listeners.

Yeah, I'd probably go with the Overnight America show. It's already cleared elsewhere in the state on Pittsburgh's KDKA.
