WWJ to add local newscast

Sounds like what I saw one of the stations doing on a trip to New Orleans. God-awful boring to watch even for five minutes.

WGBA in Green Bay has pretty much the same thing, it's the weatherman standing in front of a screen for two hours repeating a forecast and showing traffic cams. But they had to do it because they cancelled the traditional morning newscast because of budget cuts, and then piping in the Milwaukee news from WTMJ to a market which doesn't care about the latest drive-bys 100 miles south was a disaster. I don't think it's intended to watch for more than five minutes, really.

It can't do any worse than repeats of network news like they do now, though.

Ironic that Windsor viewers who just lost one morning show out of London will gain another morning cast from the American side. Guess the economy can't be that bad if WWJ of all stations can do this.

Probably won't cost all that much if it's just weather and traffic. The New Orleans show was basically the weather dude alternating between being shown on the news set, but as I recall is appeared darkened, and in front of the screen. It looked like someone had snuk into the studio to play weathercaster the way the set was empty.

From what I understand...this is not a newscast. Just weather, traffic, and commercials on a repeating loop for two hours. The could sell a boatload of commericals and fill most of that block with ads. Of course...it will all be for hashmarks. A video of paint drying would probably garner a higher rating (or infomercials).

This might work as a DT subchannel as a 24/7 service (I don't know if the AccuWeather DT service has traffic or not).

Could be worse...like WGCL/Atlanta hiring an actress as a chief weather forecaster.
