WWKI & Comcast dispute over "We Care" telethon

http://www.kokomotribune.com/local/local_story_258224348.html

I don't have enough information to take sides in this matter. But it did occur to me, what costs would WWKI incur, beyond the usage of their airtime over the weekend, and some extra electricity to run the phones, lights, and cameras at the station's studios?

Similarly, why must Comcast be given half the advertising time if they would only donate it back to We Care anyway? Assuming We Care has no objection to WWKI having all the ad avails, then why must Comcast intervene? Or does Comcast just want some kind of a tax deduction by selling those avails and then donating the proceeds?

Good questions ... who's phones, lights and cameras are they? Comcast's or does WWKI have to provide them? Setting up phone lines themselves isn't free. I doubt a small station would have an excess of lines to run a telethon. Someone has to pay.

For events like this volunteers can use their own cellphones. That way, no one has to pay. Donating airtime
is a big donation in itself. Many fundraisers are done this way today.
