WWL 105.3: Placeholder or viable?

Is there really a need for WWL on 105.3, or is it simulcasting until a better use can be dertermined?

you are kidding right. no need for 105.3? hello..am doesnt travel through brick metal and steel. fm does. thats the reason wwlfm exists. so people at work can listen. and so we can hear the saints in stereo ;D

But when are they (Arbitron) going to split up WWL-AM & FM in the trends and books? They are, after all, airing different programming in midday, Spud & Rush. Saints in stereo? Mono source broadcast in stereo.

Maybe KKNO doesn't travel through office buildings, but WWL doesn't seem to have that problem. In fact, I've had no trouble picking up WWL in the Texaco Center (i.e. Entercom New Orleans' new location).

I believe they were looking for any excuse to dump the oldies format first chance they got.

IMHO, totally viable.
The FM sounds sweet and is all I listen to when I'm in town... AM is what I listen to when I travel. Also, Rush is completely irellevant to me... Making the FM all the more valuable by being live and local.

I was gonna say. 870 has a monster signal, and I can't believe it would be hard for it to penetrate buildings downtown. Plus, if having an FM counterpart was to counteract 870's receivability (new word?) inside buildings, then I'd say that all major market dominant AM's would have an FM simulcast (which they don't).

As for receiving the Saints in stereo, I can't speak to that, since I'm not in the area, but having an FM N/T in stereo is a rarity.

i for one am a huge saints fan! and when i watch the game i listen to the saints radio network. it was sweet this year to hear hokey and kenny on a clear fm signal vs an am station that had interference from the tv i was watching! wwl-am may be 50,000 watts daytime. but its still AM! its 2006! no need to listen to static anymore!

The Saints broadcast comes into the WWL control room on one channel. It is in mono. Just because the light says stereo does not mean that two channels of unique audio are present from the source.

When the Saints play on network television, they are in stereo and sometimes 5.1 surround, unless you have a piece o'crap 19" tv from the early 1980's with rabbit ears and knobs. You'd think radio would have discovered stereo sports a long time ago, but it was not to be. It's sad...radio doesn't have to worry about visuals but can't get AUDIO right.

Case in point: All of WWL's FM simulcast is in mono. I can tell the difference.

fm mono is still better than am static!

wwl-fm's signal is finally (((IN STEREO WHERE AVAILIBLE))). i dont know if the signal is still low power but you can hear it here in the city. listen to the traffic spots or the news sounders. check out the commercials and music intros/outros. its finally in stereo and i was waiting for them to realize it.

and i dont think the saints games are in stereo. and i don't think they have the time, money, or care to do it but it can be done.
just like they do it on tv............. have a microphone on each side of the dome and designate one for left channel audio and the other for the right. when u open up the two channels together, u get a 'stereo' effect because your getting ambient noice from two different sides of the dome.
