WWL announces multi-cluster partnership during Hurricane coverage

WWL's Phil Hoover just came on WWL to announce that WWL's coverage will be simulcasted on all of Clear Channel's, Citadel's, and other assorted New Orleans stations. The companies will be pooling resources, air personalities, and personel to keep LIVE 24 hour coverage on-going during the disaster.

A very classy move that truly "serves the public interest".

Thumbs up to New Orleans radio for coming together during this tragic time. Now that's what you call unity. I just want to know when will the rest of us learn to do this?

Actually there are a number of markets where the different broadcasting companies are working together to create proceedures where competing companies will help each other out and interface with the local governements in such an emergency. The FCC will be creating a set of guildlines based on a emergency test that will happen in Oklahoma City, Milwaukee, and I believe Nashville.

Being a part of this test, I am very impressed with how the brodacasters are working together! Broadcasters are often ripped for not serving their communities. The events of Katrina, along with the programs that will be in place will help improve community service. Has it been lacking in the past? Yes it has, and we need to improve it, and I think there is a program that will be in place soon that will improve the communications to the public through broadcasters in conjunction with government.

They have to do this because after consolidation, they have terminated so many people, you have to put them all together just to get the number of people one station used to have available.
