WWL - Big Drop

8.0 - 6.8

Down to #5.

WWL !!

Maybe now they'll realize how bad their programming has gotten. With people like Mitchell, whom no one has any interest in. How bad is this guy? The worst! The worst!

And the self-glorifying "Cajun Cannon", who was a nothing then and is more of a nothing now, 20 years later.

Time to clean out the bloated house of non-talents.

This legendary station should be highly embarrassed.

Part of the problem is that they diluted the brand.

WWL AM and FM are listed seperately, though only the AM runs Limbaugh. The rest of the day they simulcast. It practically splits the rating down the middle.

Not to mention 1350 is playing the same shows but in random delayed order. Whether this frequency gets ratings is unknown, since whoever's listening is probably writing it down in the diary as 'WWL' anyway. By itself it's a no-show in the book, while the previous format did actually do something.

They'd probably be better served if they gave the FM a completely different format.

Good grief, let's call a spade a spade. WWL stinks, and has for a LONG TIME. Does anyone really, truly, no joke, think that the following are A-list, top of the market talents: Deke (is it Zeke?), Mitchell, Spuds (Spud?), Kenny W. (sorry, my new friend...)? I mean, come on. Serious question: Is there ONE other radio market in AMERICA (above Podunk or college level) that would hire Deke, Spuds, or Mitchell? Just one? This is a serious question. If those guys got fired, they are out of work and selling cars. Hate to sound so rude, but the truth hurts sometimes. Anyone disagree?

I think WWL has been resting on its corporate laurels way too long, as the corporate know-nothings ride the history of this station to try to line their pockets. But I think the WWL streetcar has finally reached the end of the line in its current incarnation.

WWL needs to:

Retire DelGiorno (worn out, really, really worn out)

Concentrate on their real morning star Monica

Fire Spud (a low level actor playing like a talk show host)

Put Garland Back In The Pasture (and his attempt at intellectual one-upsmanship with everyone)

Fire Mitchell (and put salt on the earth below where he allegedly worked so it never happens again, and destroy all reminders of him)

Sports? What a collection of clowns. Get a good and well-known black to do sports. Fer Chrissakes, sports is/are mostly blacks anyway and WWL offers all whites to broadcast sports. And what bad announcers they are. Hebert? Wilkerson? Gus? An insult to the intelligence of the listeners. And a slap at the racial composition of this city.

What? You don't believe me? Look at the #1 and #2 stations in ARB. Can you say "urban"? Can you say "black"?

News? Fire the world-class king of arrogance Dave Cohen ASAP and give the News Director title to the listener-friendly Don Amez.

Again, it goes back to laziness and greed, to let things alone and look the other way. Management and ownership have no ones to blame but themselves for the new down-the-toilet ratings for a great station.

An entire new lineup, except for Monica, would be a welcome and long-overdue breath of fresh air for a once-proud station that has "grayed" and dumbed itself to death. Far-reaching changes in station lineups every now and then is part of the radio business, and it appears that the listeners are now sending WWL that message.

People would still listen to a mostly new lineup because it *is* WWL. But this current staff is long overdue to be gone.

Just IMHO.

Fightingirish is right about the split ratings, but I think wrong about changing the FM.
That's all I listen to. I can't stand Rush anymore. But that's just me.
And actually, when you take the 2 together, it's a 9.2, not bad compared to newstalkers around the nation.
As for who could get work where, I have no doubt that each of them could find a radio gig elsewhere... heck, Ed Clancy found work... even Jon Fine found ways to get on the air.
Radio is not about being what "everyone" like's, it's about being about what a group of people like, and clearly there are folks who "like" these personalities.
ned, you have your tastes, and we agree on some (twins) and not others (Deke, Spud.) That doesn't make me right or you right. Only Chicken Little would scream about a 9.2 for the am/fm combo.
As an aside, it's hard for me to understand, short of having been fired by them, how anyone can work up so much hate for any station in this market. None of them is perfect (though WWOZ is pretty close in my book,) but the venom and vitriol from some of the "pouncers" on this board is darn laughable. as far as the 1st 2 stations being "urban," PPM's are showing that urban weighing is tilting too far to the urbans.
Chandler, you clearly fancy yourself a brilliant programmer. Why don't you go over there to WWL, get a gig, work your way up, and actually DO SOMETHING about it instead wasting your time on these boards with the rest of us losers?
IMHO.

Nah, been there, done that and made my mark. Radio programming is no longer in my blood. Besides, Diane Newman is doing such a fine job...

No longer in you blood????
You just spent 20 lines "programming" a "new and improved."

Silly bird.

Offering some personal opinions for what they're worth is what this board is all about. Yes, hands-on radio does get out of your blood when you've done all you set out to do, and did it successfully. Radio does lead to other related and more lucrative things involving broadcasting. You never know who's posting on this board.

One day maybe you'll understand...if you're lucky. Till then, keep those stars in your eyes and push those impersonal buttons.

You're right.
You never DO know who's posting...
What I do know is that 10 of your 12 posts SLAM WWL.
That sounds like"agenda" to me... or axe grinding.
Just mho.
Oh, and the "stars in the eyes" comment.
nice swipe.
priceless.

It's not just WWL; it's all those higher-ups at Entercom that run the show. In my opinion, I think WWL is ok for the most part. There are some individuals there that have earned their place. I have to give those folks credit.

But Entercom is not my cup of tea when it comes to the big corp's. For instance, the PD for B-97 and Bayou 95.7, hires part-timers with no previous radio experience AT ALL! But there's a reason behind it... they're saving money and those people being hired off the street can "relate" to those listening. But don't say your name more than twice a show cause no one cares who you are and you'll get your head bit off. "We wouldn't want to over-shadow the full-timers that have made the station what it is today!" I LVOE IT! Hahaha! ::) ;D
