WWL is great

WWL is an amazing radio station. Local programming up until midnight, Bob D. getting better with age (like a fine wine), true local flavor with guys who really know our beloved city (Bobby, Hokie, Garland, Wilkie), first class news team that saved lives during Katrina, a real local legend in Bob Mitchell, the son of a great one, Phil Johnson, and today’s best football play-by-play man in Jim Henderson. WWL is truly the news leader, and, indeed, the radio leader in town, and perhaps the nation. Great work and congrats to all of you.

Too much turkey over the holiday? Mitchell, a local legend? Maybe on music station riding other people's coattails but as a sappy, talk host? Please...Bring back those religious programs! They could save a bunch of money by letting that has-been, lose. Maybe too much cranberry sauce or just hitting the sauce? The son of a great one, Phil Johnson? When was the last time you listened to this amazing station? Corey Johnson no longer works for them. And because you're Phil Johnson son, doesn't make you a radio savior. The only truth to this post is kudos for Henderson and Gajan. Let's see if some competition makes them any better. Doubtful. You can put down your corporate pom-poms.

¿Did he leave on his own or did entercom let him go? I noticed after Katrina hit he was doing some reporting from time to time but slowly faded off the WWL airwaves.

Ned, you sound like one of those mindless "God is great" muslim loonies.

WHo even listens to that dinosaur anymore? The 6 months after they were okay, seemed to work hard....since sounds like they all are waiting for the end to come....I listen for two minutes and flip to 690....talked to cory last week, said 690 came after him, L wanted to keep him in news or something

Larry and 1060 - I, for one, listen to nothing but WWL. It is the giant, the best, the hottest, the most up to date station I have ever heard. The talent is AWESOME, informed, clever, smooth, funny, and sincere. The commercials are never annoying and they don’t harp on the same topics day after day after day. Mitchell is in a class by himself - I am sure that if there were a Radio Hall of Fame (is there?), he will be inducted. Do you not agree, or, are you just kidding? WWL RULES!!!!

What are you smoking? I think you mean "WWL used to be great."

I can't stand to listen to the local programming anymore.

Kevin, I am DEAD serious - does anyone else here think WWL is not the best? I am serious - - SOMEONE must share my opinion. Come on, guys, WWL Rules!

Obvisously, you do! Look at your past posts...

WWL is unlistenable

I came into town from Houston this week (evacuated after the storm) and was shocked at how bad WWL is. It has always been, to me, kind of a weak station from a talent standpoint, but now, having lived in Houston for a year, the weakness is amazing. The sports is especially bad. Serious question: Could Bobby, Hokie, and Kenny get jobs ANYWHERE but here? (Maybe Bobby in Atlanta, but that would be based on relationship, not talent.) If not, what does that say about our standards?

WWL rules, then, a 180? You bash everything about it existence.

Hey, look, as bad as Mitchell is, he is 50 times better at sports than Wilkie (Yes, Kenny Wilkinson)

People who work with Kenny Wilkerson call him "Wilkie"...nobody calls him "Wilkie" during shows.

The coverage of his on WWL was AWFUL. Look, a sportscaster with a bad toupee killed his wife. Interesting story, but give it a rest! By the way, the host this afternoon - “Kenny” - is a joke - fawning all over himself, his guests, and his program director - what a goofball.

Hey Lonny...say 'hi' to your wife and all the kids in Houston...Have a good retirement, pal.

I don't know who Ned is (or anybody else for that matter) but IMHO WWL is one of the best radio stations around. Are they as good as they were in the Andre/Tyree/Buddy D days. No, of course not. But seeing that two of those three people are deceased, there's only so much a station can do. they have to play the hand they're dealt. I have no axe to grind against Bob Mitchell and I don't find him all that objectionable.

If you listen to WJBO and then tune over to WWL, especially in the mornings, there's no comparison. WWL rules.

Bob Mitchell has no business on talk radio. From a recent show, "Call in and give us your meter maid stories." The guy is a prep monster. Strange man. At least he has a direct line to the mayor of Kenner.

Bayoublue, I did a 180 because I finally saw the light. KSW was, after all, correct. The station is truly great. The broadcasters are amazing, particularly sports. All I can say is, I was wrong to trash Wilkie and the rest of the guys. They are THE BEST. I just hope they all don’t jump to the network sometime soon and leave us hanging. How could I have been so blind? Thanks, KSW, for opening my eyes. Really. I am serious. No kidding.

Hey Ray Charles...wake up and go to sleep! Yeah...ESPN, Sporting News Radio, Fox Sports, Matherne Sports...they're all lining up to hire them away. Can't wait to hear any of them on Sirius. Get those receivers before the rush.

You are kidding, right? Are you trying to tell me that they could NOT get jobs there? Surely you jest....

Hey ned.
Congrats on both your almost "Cal Ripken-like" record 39 of 40 negative comments AND your "Stephen Tobolowsky" salute.
You play his part perfectly!!!

You seem to be a completely agitating [EDIT]... but like Stephen, I'm sure it's just "acting."

GREAT work.

Now, I hate to ask this... but can you actually contribute anything of substance to this site, or will you just show up every day saying the same absurd things day after day after day after day after day like you did in the movie...

And... will you take the "Groundhog [EDIT]" thing so far that you get the same response here you got in the movie?

Ouch.

I'm just curious.

And no, I don't need any insurance.

Regards,
Phil Connors

P.S. Jeff Frink says hi.

[EDIT-namecalling]

KSW, I am sorry you feel like you do. I have truly seen the light, and I regret and retract my former comments. I guess it was some kind of post-Katrina funk I was in. I truly, really, sincerely do love WWL, and I think we should feel grateful to have them all in our cars, offices, and living rooms, particularly Bob Mitchell (a true icon), and all the sports guys - the soul of the station and worthy successors for Buddy, Hap, and all the other prior icons. What a blessing WWL is. Long live the News, Talk, Sports Leader!!!

P.S. Why did you feel the need to use language that the moderator sees fit to edit out? You now seem like the kind of guy who, when losing an argument on facts or substance, changes tactics and says to his opponent, “Oh, yeah? Well, you are fat (or “stupid” or “ugly” or some other personal attack)” Are you not satisified to simply make your point without being rude? If I have been rude to you, I apologize. If I have not been rude to you, then perhaps you should grow up a little and emulate the professionals at the station I thought you and I now agreed about.
