WWL-TV limiting Transmission times/access

According to WWL-TV's website and on-air broadcasts, WWL-TV has started limiting their broadcast day to certain hours with the transmitter being turned off at 11pm on Friday and to be returning at 8am Saturday. Unknown why at this time but guess is probably to save fuel on generator (and maintance as it's been operating a good 72 hours+ non stop)

Another thing learned is Live feeds from WWL are being picked up by many news outlets. Additionally, They have recently granted permission to any broadcaster in a non-Belo market with digital multi-cast signal capacity to carry the news product (MY GUESS is to look for the broadcast in Belo markets over the Belo stations on the DT signals (and please report it here if you do find it).

The WWL broadcast are being broadcast over Cox channel 11 in Baton Rouge when children's programming from LPB isn't on (and I beleive it should be going over the DT transmitter also in BR as one of the sub channels is the PBS Kids and you feed if i remember correctly)

I dont blame them honestly, their currently just "looping" a Video tape of their news stuff over nights -- allowing their annoucers to receive much deserved sleep -- remember most are without homes themselves now and i am sure they are worn out, they have been running live all day with tape loop overnights (with exception of the other night when they put CNN US on ) why waste fuel.. Likely hood most are sleeping overnights that can actually get the OTA signal, I'd save fuel too (who knows when Gretna will have Utility power restored.. Where their transmitter is)

I commend WWL-TV for basically staying on thru the whole storm, I heard they had a few outages but overall weathered well and I beleive was one of the only TV stations if not the only tv station in N.O. that kept their transmitter running durning the storm.

Their webstream is still up right now looping earler in the evenings coverage.

Kudos to WWL-TV for keeping concerned folks informed.

I think the sharing of news feeds (and simulcasted broadcasts of the "United Radio Broadcasters of New Orleans") is also due to where some N.O. evacuees are located.

IIRC, Mobile, AL is hosting some evacuees. WKRG-TV 5 airs the WWL-TV feed (either live or tape delayed)during overnights. And CHR/Pop WYOK-FM "Hot 104" airs the URBNO programming. Many on the Alabama board have speculated that 104.1 would soon change its format, but that remains to be seen with its new role. <P ID="signature">______________

WFAA-TV/Channel 8 in Dallas is running WWL-TV's feed over its 8.2 digital channel.
