WWL/WRNO

Have the corporate morons lost their collective minds? WTF is up with talk radio? CC gets Limbaugh from WWL. WWL sends out an email to listeners from their site that they didn’t want to lose Rush, he was taken from them. You don’t like it? They included Westwood One’s email address so the listeners could bitch. Then, they run a commercial about WWL is giving us what we want, “more homegrown, local talk shows”. So what, we want both? Do they give a f*** what any listener wants? Nobody asked me but I’m sure they did extensive research before they slapped that BS back up our butts. I’m just happy Garland’s back on, even with that rough voice. No one else has a clue.

99.5 change people more than I change my BVD’s. Rush Radio 24/7? WTF again. And I’m guessing, from a commercial on the air the other night, Dick Lewis is programming genius that came up with the idea to run Limbaugh theme music over & over. “We didn’t want another music station, we want Rush Radio". But, it’s better than Bob Mitchell at night and those idiotic questions, pal. “If you were a pizza, what kind of pizza would be?” Back to 995…I guess everybody eats & sleeps Rush, right? And I’m sure Mr. DICK did a survey of all his 3 listeners to come up with that brainfart. Is Andre’ going to be back? Hannity, does it matter?

Radio is DEAD in New Orleans and I sure the rest of the business is laughing these two buffoons running the stations. Satellite radio subscriptions gotta be going through the roof!

They are dying from laughing so hard that Lakelawn-Metarie funeral home can't keep up. Hey here is a novel idea; forget consulants, and listen to what your listeners want, not what you think they want.

Professional stutterers?
The Odd Couple of New Orleans Talk Radio?
"The Hardest Working Man in Radio" and the Laziest Talk Show Host Ever?
An independent thinker and a man who is living off his daddy's reputation?
A talk host who can hold an intelligent conversation with a guest and a talk host in love with the sound of his own voice?

C'mon Axedriver, we all want to know...

CC just wants RNO to be a station that helps get Republicans elected. A 24/7 mouthpiece for conservatives.

Rush has passed his peak. Not everyone likes his one sided, condescending editorial opinion that supported the war and this President.

Can't wait until President Obama makes his FCC appointments!

So sayeth Rex.

For those that say "Rush has passed his peak" - can you point to me any concrete evidence to that besides "I don't listen to him and none of the people I know do either"? Because that's not concrete evidence.

Rush is still in the heavy hitter's league, and he'll have at least four more years of solid lambasting material to carry him through. I find him to be hilarious myself. What's even funnier is all the ditto heads that think he believes his own stuff.

Here's some evidence: Republican voters overwhelmingly rejected Rush's vocal anti-McCain campaign/vendetta and supported the most liberal Republican running, John McCain. In Louisiana, after McCain won the first primary process, he then came within 1% of Huckabee in the general primary, enough to deny Huckabee the Louisiana delegates.

Also, Rush is old, in more ways than one. His views are increasingly rejected nationwide, especially by younger people.

So sayeth Rex.

I understand your points Rex but, Rush still gets over 14 million listeners a week, head and shoulders above anyone else. Rush will help WRNO to a point, as will Glenn Beck, but when your AM Drive and PM Drive shows are as abysmal and these are, WRNO can't and won't be competitive with WWL.

I can't listen to Rush and I'm a Conservative Republican. Can't listen to Hannity either. I am ecstatic though, that someone in the market finally picked up Glenn Beck. Beck is entertaining. And the ONLY weekday entertaining program on WRNO. Dennis Miller has his moments. Unfortunately, they are getting fewer and fewer.

Had some hope for WIST (not that they could ever compete with WWL but that they could put on a credible product and be an alternative voice) but, they won't be Talk by the end of the year and may not even last through summer. Maybe not through spring.

The curse of the Mighty 690 WTIX is on WIST.

We didn't build that station up for all those years to see 690 become the identity-deprived pile of rubble it is today!

Sell, Buck, sell. The curse is on WIST.

Nolaradiobuff,

What proof/evidence or rumor/gossip do you have that supports your theory on WIST not being talk by the end of the year or not lasting through summer?

Just askin'...

No proof. No rumors/gossip. Just a feeling. How long can any station stay around with no numbers and no revenue?

Unless they are sold to someone who will make a committment to the station, sooner or later, you can put a fork in them, cause they're done.

WIST needs some serious help. Sales help. Programming help. Engineering help. Hopefully, they'll get some help. My bet is that they won't.

If THE MIGHTY 690 were simulcasted through FM like THE BIG 870, you would see some EXTREMELY FIERCE COMPETITION between the two.
Let's see....Celebrity Wrestling: Spud(870) vs Slasher(690)

Axe: Love your enthusiasm. I'd also love to know what you're smoking...I love Eric Asher, but he's not ready for prime time and Kaare's a joke. Eric's been on since the station came back and his audience is declining and Kaare never built an audience to lose. If Eric and Kaare weren't also out there selling advertising, they wouldn't be on the air.

If WIST didn't have Boortz and Savage, they'd already be out of business.

What's wrong with their engineering? When I lived in Ocean Springs, MS, I got them easily on my $15 Sony clock radio. In the car, I carried them all the way into the Florida Panhandle before they started mixing with WOKV/Jacksonville.

Not trying to start an argument, just curious. Katrina ran me out of MS and I haven't been back since. Did Katrina do a number on them or what?

They did have a big signal. Now they're on 1 tower and it breaks up in Kenner/Metairie. You can still get them from time-to-time in Alabama/Florida on a good day. But locally, they have more static than any other local signal.
