WWLE- What is new and exciting?

Anyone hear anything? Nothing new on the air.

Hard to tell if the new tower array is being built behind the home of the Green Dragons.
The new towers were supposed to be for the switch from 1170 to 1150. The new array cover due south on the Thruway.

This is has been a vastly underused frequency since it was in the Hudson Street studio in beautiful downtown Cornwall.

WWLE 1170 Am - CNN HEADLINE NEWS

I have often wondered if this station is on the air legally, or if anyone actually connected with CNN has any idea what they are up to. It is clear by listening that they are merely re-transmitting the audio portion of a TV feed over the radio. News anchors on the station often say things like, "As you can see here...", and weather reporters often point out the storm images that show up on satellite radar, as if they are talking to a television audience that is viewing what they are showing.
Anybody know who runs this operation? Is it legit?

Unfortunately, it is legit on paper. It is owned by Chuck Stewart (who also runs the Hudson Valley Black Press) and he seems to be making money from broadcasting the CNN Headline News TV feed.

In truth, this does not serve the public, but there is littel challenge to the usage of WWLE. Local programming was scarce when it existed (if they still run a half-hour local show or two I would be surprised). Some years back, it looked like Stewart was not going to sell the station, but for the good of the community and local radio in general he would be doing a great service if he would ceaase owning WWLE.

There are lot of radio stations not serving the public anymore.

I am not sure I would like someone who owns to give something up. Especially when people who would run it the way "we think it should be run" aren't lined up to buy it. LOL

The CNN stuff sort of reminds me of the story when 1460AM in Albany was broadcasting CNN Headline news in the late 80's. The receiver device would often fail, losing the CNN signal. The girl would just turn the TV on and open the studio mic and run the TV. Quite comical actually. But it worked. Today she would probably need a memo from the corporate office of micromanagement to get that done.

Where is Bruce Cowan or Terry Frank these days? I am sure they would love to do the high school football game of the week again. WGNY AM used to make a killing with those games in the 80's.

I do wonder why someone would pay a lot of money for new towers to broadcast to a different spot on the map only to do that same thing on the air.

Time will tell I suppose.
