WWMM it's official.... Live 100.5 Modern Music

hmmm. 8:50. So much to say....that was DMB from what...95?

early, old dave.

again...i was right.

i should seriously program an AAA station.

Anyone tired of me yet? :)

Well, After almost a month and a half the new station has been revealed, and all I have to say is one thing. I LIKE IT ;D It's something different, like I've never heard before around here. I mostly listen to country or classic rock, but I'd preset this station If their signal wasn't so terrible up here near the cullman/morgan/winston/lawrence county line.

good stuff...

Even with the stereo light on, I can get them very well.

Did check out their presentation and thought this is amazing.

...And I don't even know much about AAA and/or the performers that are involved with this unique style of music.

This station is something different and a breath of fresh air. Hope they do well.

i listened for a couple of hours today (330-6ish) and it is heavy on the college radio vibe.

shoulda stunted REM's "end of the world" for 24 hours first though...oh yeah, that's been done already.

when they start airing local spots i want to see who buys.

I can't say enough wonderful things about this station. When one has been exposed to the same old lame playlist(s) and chit-chat, for many years now, it makes one excited when something like this comes along.

Although I didn't know many of the songs they were playing, this station had a different vibe to it. I could sense it while I was listening.

Wish we had more "Unique" stations like this one, especially in the Montgomery market. Oh well...I won't hold my breath for that one to happen.

Glad that the AAA format now has a home in B-Ham. Hope the market is big enough to support this fresh new sound.

i really can't believe all the good things people are saying. the format is so lame. the music is milktoast amd there is no life to it.

i feel i am really to old here.

from my perspective this is for the 17-24 female market. not alot to sell there.

i would like most anything over this drivel.

I can't see how this format is supposed to appeal to females 17-24 years old. As someone stated on here a while back, AAA is targeted more to older adults than alternative rock is. I'm a 40 year old guy here. I'm not really into any type of rock music myself, but I like it. You say you're "too old", but if that's the case, I would think you'd be more inclined to listen to the station than not since it's supposedly marketed to older adults. I don't think many 17-24 years olds, male or female, would go much for this format. There are always exceptions to the rule, but for the most part I think the station is geared toward older adults rather than younger ones. From reading all these posts on here about what people want to hear on the station and what they don't, there are disagreements. It more or less boils down to personal tastes than anything else, I believe. No station can program music so that everybody is happy with 100% of what's being played. It's just not gonna happen.

i m 51 and not a single friend i asked to listen to it (5 people 40 + male & female) said they could listen for more than 3 songs in a row.

the format may say it's for older listeners but the music says differently. it's lite rock 94.5 for the x generation who now ar getting into their 1st career job and 1st mortgage.

as i said, it reminds me of college radio. a hard sell in birmingham but the darling of radio workers.

hmm....4:33, there's old maroon 5. something else i nailed... : /
(i'm keeping score here...)

i heard stuff earlier too that i think i nailed- but what i'd really like to see (although this doesn't really match an AAA station) - would be the return of something similar to the old x's vintage vault - especially at lunch. That'd be swet. Something to consider...

...she wiilllllll be loved.....

i used to sing this (with the mike off, of course) up at q-107 in florence... LOL

I wanted to like it but I have to say that so far I have massively underwhelmed. It just seems very boring. The imaging also seems a little (ok, a lot) egotistical. "It's okay to listen to the radio again." Wow...mighty proud of ourselves, aren't we? That said, it is definitely different from the other stations in the area and they get points for that. I'm sure we'll see (hear) a lot more in the coming week(s) so I'm not calling the station dead. Just saying that so far I haven't been tempted to set it on my presets and I am a fan of AAA.

This is the only radio station in Birmingham right now that I can leave my radio on and not want to change the station every other song.
In other words - it's pretty sweet.
I'm 26 years old. I have at least a couple of friends 19-21 that like a good bit of the music playing.
The last station that I liked anywhere close to this much was the old WANZ Z-100.5 (pre-X buyout).

I've only got a few suggestions I'd give them (if I could...no feedback line or anything yet so far as I know):
I do wish they'd stop playing that stupid John Mayer remake of "Free Falling" all the time, but that's just personal preference because I'm not a big fan of him.
Give me more of Muse! Their other songs are awesome too, not just Starlight. Same for Death Cab, and I'm sure other artists.
One artist that I haven't heard so far, though, is Aqualung. Add in Brighter than Sunshine and Pressure Suit at least!

And yeah, the adverts are a bit pretentious and snotty, but I agree with them when they say "It's Okay to listen to the radio again." I haven't felt the need to listen to my XM radio since this station went on the air...I may even cancel my subscription now. Good job guys...and don't screw it up, please!!

Well, I rather unexpectedly got to listen in to the new Live 100.5 -- from Mississippi. Got the station around the tiny town of Shuqualuk, halfway between Columbus and Meridian.

Not a bad mix. Maybe this gen X'er is getting mellow (ha, I never was "Xtreme!" to begin with) because I'd actually preset this and listen if I lived in the area. By the time I got into Meridian the station was gone.

And I'll agree with a previous poster: the imaging needs work. Kinda snobby, yet also low-budget. :D

I haven't actually listen to this station since I can't pick the signal up at all from where I'm at. From what I read so far, this station sounds a lot like a lighter or more mellow version of The X.

Speaking of The X, the old call letters have since been reassign to a Walhalla/Ludington, Michigan station on the 98.9 frequency. I don't think this new WRAX is on the air yet. I check the FCC website earlier today and that's what I found out.

Sounds like Dave Rossi brought with him something from South Carolina. Glad he liked our liners enough to use them in Birmingham.

That's a scientific survey if there ever were such a thing!

Actually, the music says it's for the 25-54 audience or a subset of that age group. The artists 100.5 plays have almost no teen appeal whatsoever. If the station skews as young as you think it will, Birmingham will be the only market in the nation where that happens. Your "Lite Rock 94.5 for Generation X" description may be somewhat accurate. Lite rock, remember, skews heavily 25-54 and has very little young appeal. Generation X, by the way, is now totally within the 25-54 demographic; the oldest members of Generation X are 43 years old while the youngest will turn 28 this year. That's well beyond the first career job and first mortgage.

as i said, it reminds me of college radio. a hard sell in birmingham but the darling of radio workers.

While I disagree with much of what you say, I do agree that this format will likely be a tough sell in Birmingham. I worked for a cluster that had a AAA in a college town that was known for being progressive, and the sales staff had a tough time selling the format on its own merits. It actually got bumped to a weaker signal in order to put a more mass appeal format on the stronger signal. The agency buys were rarely a problem since it usually got the 25-54 female numbers the ad agencies demanded, and their buys are totally numbers-based. The good news was not just that agencies always paid but also that agencies are always your bread and butter. However, 100.5 isn't likely to get many agency buys unless Citadel forces it down the throats of those who want WJOX and/or WZRR. Signal alone will likely prevent the station from getting the 25-54 numbers needed to get a large amount of national advertising. Selling to local advertisers was much more difficult at the AAA in the building where I worked. There was both a perception that the audience belonged to a counterculture and that the audience was too intelligent and not willing to spend money without careful consideration. The best way we found to get around those issues was to market the station as a cheaper alternative to those who wanted to advertise on the AC in the next studio over. We actually managed to get a lot of advertisers who either couldn't afford the almost $250 a pop for a prime spot on the AC or bought a lower priority on the AC and got sick of being ROS'ed. There were also issues with tune-out. The audience really hated commercials. Outside of morning drive, spots were limited to 8 minutes or 12 units per hour with 10 minutes or 14 units allowed in PM drive.

radio in my car is almost all talk. i wanted to like the station as unmoving as most commercial music stations are in birmingham. at home i listen to music i choose and that does include some of the live 100.5 playlist. dave mathews and the jam band nation makes me ill (phish to the dead). i think yesterday i heard the entire colbie caillat album.

i never liked the x. rossi has an attitude of alloofness that just rankles me. reg would have been a better fit in my opinion.

i guess it comes down to the music is just cotton candy and fluff.

the format must evolve as the "***** music" (my drummers' wife libby came up with that when i asked her to listen to the station) will die soon enough with the changing of the seasons and then where will "live" be?

good luck guys, work on the transmitter and squeeze some good juice out of it. hand held transistor radios went out in the 60's.
