WWNF

Hey just saw on 100000watts.com that WWNF has gone country.
Is it it's own station or a simal with 102.3 WKIX?
Thanks.
If it is a simal wonder if it will stay that way or if 102.3 is going to do something different.

With that kind of "Stick", they will no doubt be their own station and rise to the top in a matter of books.

Not to mention all the towns in between!
I can't think of any off the top of my head, but you know there's GOT to be diaries out there!! :D

Their calling themselves "Kix Country 97.7" on air. Their also saying this over at 102.3. If WKIX is moving to 97.7, what is to become of the 102.3 freq?

rumor has it that it will simalcast with 102.9 in raleigh. unknown if that is fact or fiction.

I would think this to be a very likely scenario, since they've done this a few times before (96.9 and 101.1, 96.9 and 102.9, 101.1 and 102.3). I don't recall whether or not it's been approved, but there was an application to move 102.3's city of license to Smithfield.

Probably old news by now, but 97.7 FM is now home to the WKIX call letters, while 102.3 is now WWNF. Those WKIX call letters have appeared on many regional frequencies since first appearing on the local radio waves:

1959-1994 850 AM
1959-mid-70s 96.1 FM
1994-1998 96.1 FM again
1998-2001 96.9 FM
2001-2006 102.3 FM
2006- 97.7 FM

Curtis sure has been keeping their plans on the dl. I can't find anyone who knows for sure (or is talking) about what's happening with that freq. Curiosity is driving me nuts.

Looks like TimWhite was correct! I wonder if this simulcast is permanent. I really hope so, as I think Y102.9 is the best sounding station in the Triangle, and now we can hear them locally.
