WWNJ, 91.1, Toms River, now in HD

As of today, WWNJ, 91.1, Toms River Twsp., is broadcasting in HD ..
They were the last of the "Classical Network" stations to go HD, as WWFM in Trenton, WWCJ in Cape May & WWPJ in Pen Argyl PA have been HD for a while now ..
WWNJ also moved their transmitter from the water tower in Lavallette to a water tower off of Hooper Ave. in Toms River, near Hooper Ave. Elementary School ..
They have also reduced power to 5800 watts @ 318 feet, compared to the 50,000 watts (vertical)/50 watts (horizontal) @ 151 feet they were using in Lavallette ..

There is no HD2 at the moment, although the "Jazz On 2" programming that is currently heard on the HD2's of WWFM, WWCJ & WWPJ will eventually be turned on at WWNJ ..
 
Oh great. There goes 91.3 and 90.9.
I've noticed that in some markets, only the non-commercial stations are in HD. Knoxville, Tennessee has only 1 station in HD, 91.9.

The listeners that donate to non-commercial stations are informed about and can afford HD radio. It might just take a few rich HD listeners to keep the HD2 on the air and keep them donating.
 
I'm not really big on classical, but I have sampled the jazz stream (on http://www.jazzon2.org), and it's not that bad, in my opinion ..
When they turn the HD2 on WWNJ, I may consider donating ..

It'd be cool if they also tacked on the HD3, which I beleive is only on the main station, WWFM ..
It's Mercer County Community College's "student-run" station, "Viking Radio", which plays a typical "college" format of alternative rock, etc ..
And, during "Viking Radio's" off-times, they stream WXPN's "eXPoNential Radio" service ..
But, I don't expect that to happen ..
Jazz on the HD2 will be good enough for me ..
I'm just happy that in the matter of a couple of weeks two more local stations have gone HD .. gives me something else to listen to, besides the hit or miss NYC/Philly stations and WRAT/WJRZ ..

Oh, and as far as 90.9 & 91.3, they are both "hash" now, as I'm less than 5 minutes away from their new transmitter ..
I used to get WHYY on 90.9 (pretty well, actually) and a faint signal from WRTQ on 91.3 ..
 
HD is still around ;D On a side note, will Greater Media ever create HD stations and use their transmitters to simulcast?
 
I hope they are still testing, the signal is considerably weaker here in Southern Ocean County. I cannot get the station at all on my clock radio!

As for HD, in my car the HD signal strength was about on-par with WMMR all the way from Philly.
 
They are running half-power until the FCC grants the transmitter move ..
 
Just in case anyone is playing along at home, WWNJ's HD2 is up & running as of today ..
