WWNQ Poor Quality

They could be getting clobbered during a "skip" or "ducting" period. During the summer, FM signals can get bounced along ducts created by different density air masses. A week ago, we were replaced in NE by a station out of Brownsville, TX... RDS and all! That was probably happening with WWNQ, unless they went to low power for maintenance.

Summertime in the Carolinas is rough if you have less than a Class C. 93.3 always got battered pretty good too. Heck, even NOK one afternoon was breaking up in Five Points!

You're going to see it happen with DTV a lot, too, if you are part of the 20% of folks that use over-the-air pickup of the DTV signals.

Yes, ducting is an unfortunate fact of life in South Carolina, usually during the summer, but i have found it can happen any time of the year here if the weather is right. I would guess Columbia, with all of its class A FMs would be especially affected. I'd also expect that 92.1 from MYB would be a frequent visitor in NE Richland County, so I wouldn't get too attached to WWNQ. BTW, I've noticed that many of the Charlotte class Cs have been breaking up quite a bit here in the Fort Mill area, 17 miles from uptown Charlotte, for the past week or two---I'm sure ducting is the culprit.

AHHHHHH YESSSSS I Miss those tropo and E-Skip ducting... get some good boomers and you are set for some good radio listening or Ham Radio chatting... I have found that Memorial Day Weekend and around Christmas time for some good E-Skip... I remember one morning when WPUB was still on 94.3 getting a call one morning from Morgonton NC... They loved what I was playing and wanted to give me a reception report... I wish PUB when they had the chance could have gone 25KW, but the owner at the time did not want to do it... would have been nice now they are on 102.7 with IMO not as good of coverage as they had on the old spot... Heck when I am at my mom and dad's house GNI kills PUB... CC1
