WWNU NEW 92 NEXT TO FLIP?

Has anyone noticed the ratings in WWNU NEW 92? They are the LOWEST they have been since this station started broadcasting. The rating on WWNQ was actually higher then what WWNU is currently, before they switched the format from Country Legends to this Flashback thing. Think it has anything to do with Tyler thinking he's the next coming of Ryan Seacrest? This guy is an EGO MANIAC! I ran into his "cohost" that I heard is really an unpaid intern and she was at a restaurant asking for a discount because "she is on NEW 92". WTF? Who cares? You're ratings suck, your "host" talks about nothing but himself and he can't even keep loyal listeners. I hope the powers that be at Double O realize that he's is and always has been the destruction of that station. They need to move Glen Garrett to host the morning show and get Tyler out of there before both stations go up for sale. Nobody cares about his damn dog or roommate! Maybe him and Kenny Chesney should get a house together. They would probably have a lot in common.

Glen has been around Columbia radio a long time and is great with what he does. I have been wondering how WWNU is now going to fiar with Cojntry Legends gone and frankly after hearing Glena nd Mike Lockaby on air when Tyler was on vacation was a scream and think that they would do a great job either together or just having Glen by himself.

I don't see New 92 flipping anytime soon. If Double O were to acquire a better signal, you can bet they would move the format there. Otherwise, they seem committed to New 92.

Double O Radio may be putting the rest of their eggs in New 92's basket, but there are things that they could do to tighten that station up to take a serious run at WCOS. They sound tracked more than they don't and their play list has gotten horribly predictable and one thing you can say for WCOS is that they do play a good variety of music. I think what has hurt Tyler is that McKenzie left and that morning show has not been the same since.

They may not flip formats, but I wouldn't be surprised if they flip owners in the next year or so. At some point, you have to cut your losses.

They should sell before they have shut off the power. WWNU is a bad station with a bad signal and really bad management. Have you noticed every GM is fired and all of the good programming people left. I guess there was only room for Tyler's ego.

Since I live in the metro Columbia area, I think I can safely say that Double O needs to do something with Tyler. I have a sneaky feeling that many people like myself are getting sick and tired of Tyler Ryan's huge ego and his stupid negative editorial comments are getting almost as bad as Charlie James and Gary David's on WVOC. He just needs to shut his mouth and play the music or maybe they need to change him with Glen Garrett and then if they can tighten up their play list, then and only then can they take a stab at going after WCOS. You can say what yopu want about 97.5, but Jonathan Rush has gotten comfortable there and their play list is great. Now granted they are not what they used to be in year's past and I blame Clear Channel and large corporate radio for that, but that is just the way it goes right now and until things change, we are just going to have to live with that.

I thought the original post was a bit personal...I think it's same assuming that Ol Tyler got under the skin of someone inside...oh well. Having had a few dealings with Tyler, I didn't get the ego read. He certainly doesn't bend too much from his opinion, but I would argue that one shouldn't.
He does tend to take a stance on the air, that is for sure, but how much of that is real, and how much is it to stir the pot? Either way, just a thought. As far as Rush, he has gotten a little more comfortable. Agreed.

My understanding of the numbers by monthlys clearly show that there was bad placement for the country audience at least 2 times in the Fall book. It will be interesting to see how Arbitron in their wisdom makes up for it in the Winter and Spring. Both WWNU and COS appear to be loosing some rather large numbers with the next round comes in. COS more the NU. Although it would appear that the bigger hit will come from COS, look for a little more downward turn from both before Arbitron get out their calculators and fixes it.

The grapevine has it there are major changes coming to the Double O group very soon. With changes to both stations. If this is true, this would be great news for radio in Columbia, these stations have a very bad rap on the street.

Between me, you, and the fencepost, the only major changes that I imagine would happen would follow an ownership change. Given the prevailing conditions, it is not a great time to put a station group on the market.

The Columbia market is pretty well over saturated. the only thing I could see coming is a Lite adult contemporary station or another CHR to give WNOK a good run for its money.

I'd say either CHR (since WNOK has no local talent nor listener loyalty) or FM talk (which is cheap and sat. delivered). But I still don't believe Double O can rebuild the credibility needed to make money. They should sell and cut their losses. The question is, who would buy in this economy?

If I had another two sticks, one would be adult rhythmic non-urban CHR and the other would be 24/7 rolling news. You'd have to put money and time into both, which Double O has little of.

NOK is a huge sitting duck.

It just makes me wonder how much longer the Double O stations are going to be around considering thier terrible ratings that they have collectively shared. When they were both Country, together they could never match WCOS's numbers even when they were really low, and it really makes me really wonder about their management scheme and also wonder if they will try and sell their "cluster."

What a shame about Double O. They must have spent a ton of money on those stations and now its down to this.

I think some of the formats missing here would be a very lite AC, CHR to go up WNOK...but that's not cheap to do. All News FM and maybe smooth jazz. But, lite AC is the best. What about bringing back an Oldies format?

I think that Lite AC would be better since WOMG has the oldies thing covered really well and do not think another oldies station would work here. I think we need two country stations so that WCOS can have some real competition, the only problem is that that WCOS has such a great signal and has been around for nearly 40 years as a country station.

Although I'm not a big fan of the format, I think Smooth Jazz would do the best of all mentioned. The theory being: Take a little from WWDM, a little from WLXC, and a little from WTCB. And voila. Maybe a four or five. Maybe more, it's hard to say in this market. Mainstream jazz did very well for a time when 103.1 debuted but then died.
