WWOR EMI SERVICES 1993

Did the "EMI Service" simulcast any of WWOR's local programming?

From what I recall reading out-of-market TV Guide listings, the only non-news and non-sports programming that was simulcast on the neutered superstation version of WWOR was reruns of "The Cosby Show" and "Who's The Boss?"

They also were showing first run syndies renegade and highlander during both shows runs early to late 90's

I don't believe that is correct or atleast that didn't last. In fact, I clearly remember "The Cosby Show" reruns were unavailable in the Philly for awhile during a decent time as WCAU was burying it the middle of the night, and Cosby on WOR wasn't available to Philly, but we were teased by the TV Guide listings that made it appear as it might be available.

At some point, WCAU had the rights but buried Cosby reruns off the schedule in the middle of the night I think. This was when WCAU was a CBS affiliate

The Philadelphia TV Guide Edition for a while did something where it would list the EMI listing and then something to the effect "The Cosby Show" may air here, as Trenton, Ocean County and Allentown area got the local feed.

WTXF finally got 'The Cosby Show' reruns, but for some years (I feel close to three years), Philly didn't get to enjoy them.

I believe at first, Cosby was seen on the Superstation feed, syndex-free, only for it to become a syndexed program about a year or two before the EMI Service's closure, perhaps as a result of WWOR's renewal of the syndication contract.

The Hartford-New Haven edition of TV Guide carried two separate listings for WWOR -- one for the original feed, listed under "9"; and one for the EMI feed, listed under "WOR".

I believe the Illinois-Wisconsin edition, which served Milwaukee and Madison, did something similar for WGN, with "9" representing the local feed and "WGN" representing the superstation.

For whatever reason my cable system in Cambridge, MA continued to carry WWOR and WPIX on the original microwave line from NY and simply blacked out "SyndEx" when they had to.

It was frustrating to be watching a Yankees or Mets game and have the timer kick in.

In the early 80's when either 9 or 11 signed off we would get WCBS-TV and Stanley Siegel at 4 AM.

He was insane.
