WWOR: Re-schedule news; logo

When UPN closes, Channel 9 should re-schedule its evening newscast for 9PM
as an alternative to the 10 and 11PM newscasts. Call it "News 9 at 9."
Also, I hope this new 9 logo is an interim brand. VERY boring.

I hope they would use the 9 they first used when they became "UPN9". You know, the gold colored one that was one 3-D curve.

Just PLEASE don't go back to that red square 9 that they used when MCA first took over around 1985. That was in the running for worst logo ever.

If they want to be really cute, they could go back to the RKO 9 from the 70's/early 80's. :)

Wasn't the first UPN 9 logo from 1995-2002 actually based on that? They both looked similar in many ways.

Has logos of WWOR, WOR and some other NYC TV Stations. Which ones do you mean?

I occasionally drive down Meadowlands Parkway in Secaucus, NJ and noticed that on the sign outside their studios they still have the old UPN 9 logo with the gold colored 9. (The second logo from the top in the thread above).

The RKO dotted 9 from 1971-1987. I always thought that the first UPN 9 logo (1995-2002) looked so identical to that, save for the old UPN logo.

Done. :)

9 should focus their news with New Jersey as the target audience. The other stations have Jersey reporters, but 9 could shine as THE news source for Garden State coverage.

I agree Mike. Actually, the station should concentrate
on the Newark Metropolitan Area. The entire state needs
more than just one TV station.

The circumstances that saw RKO move the station to Secaucus
implied that the station really would serve its new city of
license and surrounding areas. But the inspiration behind
the scam...Bill Bradley...had no intention of doing anything
other than saving the license for the people who provided him
with lots of campaign money. He didn't want even to talk about
the station when I confronted him with the issue. And I did so
many times. The plan, for certain, was to save the license
and take advantage of New Jersey for that purpose. An old
story that keeps getting retold over and over again.

WWOR also probably saves a lot of money in rent by having studios in NJ as opposed to NYC. I wonder if cost savings has anything to do with staying in Secaucus. Isn't that the reason radio stations like Z100 and KTU have their studios in Jersey City - to save money?

I don't know about saving money. I do know that some time
last year both U.S. senators, Corzine and Lautenberg, as
well as a member of Congress, asked the FCC to look into
a supposed move by WWOR-TV to relocate their studios to
New York City. I don't know if they made the move or not.
Maybe someone here can say for sure.

The issue though is, and always has been, the lack of
interest by the federal government...and Bill Bradley
in particular...to make sure that WWOR-TV really did
move to New Jersey, not just locate their studios there.
Bradley used the deplorable broadcast situation in New
Jersey to pay back debts to his Hollywood industry
campaign supporters. But then no one should be
surprized. Bradley used New Jersey to run, first for
Congress and then for the Senate. He couldn't care
less for the state. It was only a convenient venue
for his political career. Just like that woman...what's
her name?
