WWOR-TV license under debate

This is over WWOR-TV's license and it's obligations to air New Jersey news content.

There's a lot of history here. In 1983, WWOR was the beneficiary of a law passed that was meant to give NJ a VHF station. The state had been without one since Channel 13 went non-commercial. The intent was to provide more coverage of the state. In fact, previous governor, Chris Christie sold the state's public TV system to WNET, leaving the state without any local TV news coverage.

In the last 8 years, WWOR has been cutting back on NJ news coverage, and officially left NJ when it was sold to Fox. Here's an article from 2013 about the situation:

So the idea that this is "an attack on Fox" is totally bogus.

Yes I remember hearing that WWOR-TV moved to New Jersey goes back to when RKO's TV and Radio licenses for their stations such as KHJ-TV/(Now known as KCAL9 Los Angeles), WHBQ, KFRC , WNAC-TV now WHDH-TV were in dispute.

How much of this is that New Jersey counties are split in two markets such as New York and Philadelphia. Also how much of a factor would the FCC in previous years if they allocated TV and radio stations to make Trenton the state capital of New Jersey it's own DMA separated from New York and Philadelphia.

Trenton isn't central. It's 30 miles from Philadelphia, 60 miles from Newark, 90 miles from Atlantic City.

DMAs are based on population, and Trenton is not the most populous part of the state.

Newark is by far the most populous city, but it's 10 miles from NYC. That's why all the media was concentrated there.

Since this is impossible to give New Jersey its own DMA the likely scenario would be have news bureaus in Trenton but that may be subjected to budget issues from New York and Philadelphia.
