Too bad WLIB did not go talk---african american. WWRL has signal problems in my area of NYC. Air America seems to be on life-support here.
 
I'm listening to WWRL's morning show now.

Another poster said when the AAR change-over was first announced that Armstrong and Williams would do a more mainstream morning show to fit in with the progressive talk format.  Well, I'm listening and they are not!  It's the same Urban Talk, Black-targeted morning show they did before - with the same regular callers.  The issues they talk about are oriented to the Black community.  The perspective is geared to the Black community. 

Only problem is at 9am they shift to White liberal (aka Progressive) talk.  Talk about a flow kill.

On top of that, they make the station change now - and later this month they change the program line-up.

But this is AAR, we are talking about.  You weren't expecting other than more dumb moves.

Another dumb move: It does not sound like WWRL's morning show is even clearing network spots. They are running lots of promos and PSAs, so it's not like they don't have open avails for AAR's PI spots.

There's some good progressive talk about there - but most of it is not on AAR (and - as a result - most of it is not heard in New York).
 
It's sounding like AAR is syndicating to WWRL on a per-program basis if WWRL isn't carrying the network spots during AM drive. Typically, an affiliate of a 24/7 network (like ESPN or one of the satellite music services) does have to carry the network spots during local programming.
 
I've heard air america is losing stations ----not gaining new ones---- even though some group gave them $$$$ recently. Progressive/Liberal talk can be done---- but air america is not doing it very well--- so far.
 
how about Walt Baby Love in am-drive on WLIB? Brother Walt is a minister I think. does WLIB plan to have on-air hosts? (but WLIB should have gone talk with Bob Law and other hosts.)

I didn't say they "would" do a more mainstream show. I said they were capable of doing so. Big difference.

Rachel Maddow explained yesterday morning

Her show won't air in the morning in NYC for the next couple of weeks. The station they moved to still has a contract to run Armstrong Williams show that they have to honor.

It's temporary.

Just listen to Stephanie Miller instead.

Very true. I'd add they "should" do a more mainstream show. I know such a shift might take time to develop but they did have some warning about this.


It appears the comment "listen to Stephanie Miller instead" is from the poster - NOT Rachel. The comment is screwy because Steph is on opposite Jerry (who is head in New York for the time being) - not opposite Rachel.

The poster also appears to have gotten his facts screwed up about the schedule change. Rachel reportedly will move to early evenings later this month (and she will then be carried in NYC). The Daily Kos post suggests the current WWRL morning show will be replaced shortly and Rachel will be back on in mornings. I suspect what Rachel actually said was she will not be on in New York until she moves to evenings. Plus, the poster ("Use Common Sense"), didn't even get the name of the WWRL morning show right. Sounds like the poster was not paying attention.

From whom did you hear this? Who is "some group"?

I'm enjoying the mix of WWRL's "legacy" local advertising intermingled with AAR's programming.

And while WWRL may not have a great OTA signal, it has by far the best-quality web stream of any AAR affiliate!
