WWRN - Rockport

OK, I wasn't expecting this at all! Apparently, 88.5 WWRN? Is now broadcasting CCM via The Renew-FM Network, complete with rebroadcasts on 92.1, Quincy, and 103.7, Boston.

The 103.7 signal comes in quite well North of the city. Did anyone notice this at all, or was one of radio news that fell inbtween the tracks instead?

WWRN has been around for quite some time, maybe 10 years? 103.7 is on the Hancock building. The Quincy signal is 102.1, front the same tower as 91.9 and now 94.9.

I remember tuning across it when driving along Rt. 129 in Swampscott several years ago. I had no idea it even existed, a very low-profile operation. As you might expect, the signal disappeared rapidly as I headed inland.

I am not in the area, so can't try to pick it up....seems to have a signal that hugs the coast and does not propagate into the Merrimack valley too much...

There's an Eastern MA Timeline at https://www.bostonradio.org/timeline/ that mentions the Cape Ann religious outlets. UMass wanted to be on 91.5 in Rockport but Light of Life got it for WWRN--in 2009 I think. Later they
moved it to 88.5. The FCC allowed UMass to start up a 91.5 licensed to Gloucester, which hit the air last spring as WUMZ.

Radio-locator says that WWRN 88.5's tower is just off Rt 127 nr Ravenswood Park, Gloucester. WUMZ's stick is in downtown Gloucester.

Or WROL 950 or Catholic WQOM 1060 or WWDJ 1150 (going from Salem to Relevant) unless you mean Christian Contemporary primarily. 95.5 in Providence is pretty powerful too.

In the OP, I said a CCM station. I guess who are not familiar with Christian radio wouldn't know that is a standard acronym for Contemporary Christian Music.

I don't think they air all that much CCM. Seems most times I come across them they're airing preaching.

Maybe to the average non-Christian person. And oh, BTW, both Lauren Daigle and Amy Grant fall within that Genre and both have won numerous Dove Awards too (The Christian version of The Grammy's). Also, K-Love fits within the title as well.

And hmmm, doesn't Billboard have a Christian music chart too? Just for the record, I have learned a real lot about Christian Radio and its formats in regular music business trade magazines also.

Oh, BTW on a different note, I read this week that EMF has a new General Manager. He said that they always keep their propects open for new stations.
He said that they have a particular aim to get into Boston at some point. I just wonder what is presently out there that the major colgroms are ready and when they will sell a station to them?

Hard to imagine any of the full-market signals being available, but who knows? WBOS, maybe? Would they settle for WXRV, which at least would get them into parts of the Boston market that WBRU doesn't reach? I know a lot of this forum's regulars will mention WODS, but I still think it's better to be stuck with a struggling CHR than a struggling classic rock or alternative. The demographics are better and CHR has a way of getting hot for longer stretches than it stays cold. Rock just seems to be on a death spiral.
