WWTN vs. Guns & Leather

I had the extreme pleasure of (randomly) listening to the demise (maybe) of the Guns and Leather Hour on 99.7 on Sunday night (7-8P CST.) The paid-for-hour hosts were highly upset by new signs making the Music Row Cumulus cluster a Gun Free Zone. The hosts pointed out that their shows contract was up (or up for renewal) in a few weeks and they would NOT be coming back unless the signs were gone. Obviously, they feel their right to carry arms in a business is of top priority and were highly upset that WWTN management and the local Cumulus management had approved or been forced to add the new signage and policy, given they and other gun-related businesses spend multiple thousands of dollars a year with the stations.

It was a very interesting night to hear callers from many remote areas call in and speak their minds. The feed is found on the Guns and Leather Facebook page. I am not sure if it was discussed on air today, but I will say that I have seen and heard a lot of interesting comments on the air in my years in and on the air and in radio, but this may be a top five contender for speaking ones mind and putting their money where their mouth will be. No one was at the station to stop the comments or cut the feed to the show. They were pretty respectful of proper FCC rules of language, but it was kind of surreal to hear them tell the listeners what WTN could do and where it could go and that there was a real talk radio station in town called WLAC. Looks like their First Amendment right got a bit further than their Second Amendment right at the tomb of doom. The word "weasles" was used a time or two.

Sadly, I guess this will be one of the more exciting radio developments of 2018 thanks to the rather generic and stale nature of the airwaves in Music City.
