Just a few producers are in the station.

FWIW, Phil did a show or two after he and his son Campbell did their usual podcast. Campbell had gone to a wedding and many people, including the bride and groom, ended up with COVID. He was feeling a bit sick and they decided to separate a bit, but being in one small area (their cabin) it was too late. This has been quite a rough couple of weeks for everyone involved. I have probably mentioned Phil a few times over the years on this board. “Phil is Phil” as many people say. That actually says it all. Not a bad slam against him. He is a strong man of good pedigree and regardless of his views and/or political stand, doesn’t have a mean bone in his body and has a great love for all people, especially with those he may disagree. No matter what, he is almost bigger than life, yet sincere and humble. His sense of humor is totally off the track and almost constant. I hope all these strengths help push him to a win over this. It has been a horrific few weeks and while he did decide to be put on a respirator to rest his body, today’s change is proof the road ahead is unsure. He is a fighter and that may hopefully be just the answer that allows him to beat the odds of a horrific attack on his body from this unpredictable villain.

I had a COVID test about 8 hours ago, after having the vaccine earlier in the year, and the doctors and nurses today are really seeing multiple cases of people who had the shots. Delta is not a thing to second guess. One doctor said she had 19 positive tests and only two had had no vaccine. No matter what state or city everyone is, nature doesn’t give a damn about politics or picking sides. That outta be painfully obvious now. Sorry for the rant. I hope everyone on RD stays on here and is healthy and wise through this uncharted ride.

It's also important to remember that the shot DOES NOT prevent you from getting covid, just keeps you from having a severe or fatal result. Unfortunately, uninformed people are using positive covid tests in vaccinated people as a way to say the vaccine doesn't work. It works. It was never supposed to prevent infection, just minimize the effects.

The unvaccinated are the ones who will be dying or going to ICU. I have no sympathy for these ignorant people. They will put needless stress on hospitals and staff. If they refuse the vaccine then hospitals should be allowed to turn them away. That may sound Draconian, but stupid people need to learn a hard lesson...

Picture hordes of MAGA following Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, et al, off a cliff while they toot on their flutes.

Update posted on 8/6 on twitter by someone who says she knows the family:
"Not doing great. On vent, no ECMO. Secondary infection. I talked to an ER nurse yesterday as well (not treating Valentine) and she said 'they don't come off the vent.' So it's either denial or they're letting the family say their goodbyes (hopefully not in the room)"

Latest today from Mark Valentine: Phil is going to be placed on an EKMO machine if a bed can be found and he can be helicoptered in. Cumulus must have some good insurance (or everyone's rates will be going up)
Soon-to-be WSMV owner Gray Television is mandating vaccinations for their employees. Needless to say this will probably force Cumulus and iHeart to do the same.

Agreed, and well said fbn.

Hmmm.... I take it you're a Rush fan. Me too!...(y)

Cumulus is already mandating all new hires be fully vaccinated before starting. I don’t believe current employees are required to be vaccinated to keep their jobs, but the first step is usually the precursor to the second.

After they see how much their insurance is going up after Phil Valentine un-necessarily $1 million bill, I don't think they'll take any guff unless it's a superstar talent.

This is going to be interesting: the right for an employer to require vaccination for employment versus individual rights. The can of worms, in my opinion, lies more in the folks who choose for 'religious' reasons not to be vaccinated. Those people who have a long record prior to Covid choosing not to seek medical attention for various conditions would, before the court, have a leg to stand on. On the other hand, the government has a duty to protect the general public from 'threats' to the safety of the general public by isolating the threat (generally speaking a criminal act, however, a virus might fit that definition). Temporary requirements that limit our freedoms are sometimes needed (curfews after manmade and natural disasters, etc. and even in earlier days, occupants of homes quarantined, etc.)

I believe we will see more isolation of the non-vaccinated in the workplace and other public areas. This will result in random physical infractions between parties and eventually somebody like the ACLU will find a poster child to represent to 'take it to the Supreme Court' where, if they even take the case will be forced to render an opinion where an illness can halt individual freedoms and constitutional guarantees for the good of the general public.

To set the record straight from the obnoxious and ignorant rantings of some on this site, as a republican and confessed conservative (of sorts), I'm fully vaccinated and can't wrap my head around those who refuse to be vaccinated for any reason except those who truly have allergic reactions to some of the vaccine ingredients (I know only 1 family where this is the case). There is ample research from many sources that are not beholding to any drug manufacturer or government that demonstrate the percentage of adverse reactions and/or life threatening reactions are multiples lower than the chances your body will attack your good white blood cells as well as the covid-infected white blood cells destroying your body's ability to fight the illness. For most it will be a nasty version of the 'flu'. I don't know about you, but I've had the flu more than once and I never want to suffer with it again.

For everyone: the worst thing ALL of us can do is continue to politicize this virus. That is why we are in this situation. The government in general went off half-cocked with differing information as medical science tried to figure out the virus and how to tackle it. I'm all for getting info out there but sometimes it is better to be silent until we have a few facts versus theories. And it's just as bad now as when Trump was in office because Covid is still a political football.

This past week I met with a hospital administrator where they reached 15% of Covid patients in their facility, starting a no visitor status. I was told they were confused by all the contradictory information. It seems to me, we will be in limbo until it is determined if we will need booster shots (like for influenza) and until the under 12 years of age vaccine is cleared. I think once school districts mandate Covid vaccination for in-school attendance (and winning any court challenges) and booster vaccines are readily available, the issue will persist. Even then there will be some who will refuse but by that point there will be enough of the population vaccinated for herd immunity to eliminate the potential for an epidemic.

If we can accept the influenza annual shot knowing it's effectiveness varies by year then why can't we accept a Covid vaccine that at least will prevent a serious case if it doesn't prevent the body from launching an attack of Covid cells so quickly we don't even know it because there's never any symptom? To call the vaccine ineffective is, thus, an untruth. There is no absolute in anything.

The best I can gather at this point, antibodies stay in our body about 6 months but beyond that the 'body's intelligence system' will recognize and target Covid cells well beyond that time just as it does with other ailments. It is important to remember Covid is life-threatening to only a tiny percentage of those contracting the virus. However, with that said, so many Americans have underlying health issues that it begs the question, 'why chance it?'.

If more conservatives stuck to the reasoned and rational positions you have voiced, we'd be in a lot better shape right now. So many have sold out their logic and principles in this cult-of-personality trumpist world we now find ourselves in.

Karma. That is all.

This is going to be interesting: the right for an employer to require vaccination for employment versus individual rights.
The biggest problem (as opposed to the big lie): A huge %age of people in this country don't know what to say, think or do until someone tells them. And that's on both sides.

Everyone is free to make their own decision(s) and take whatever action(s) they desire. By doing so, whether they want to or not, they are accepting the consequences. I can rob a bank today, but if i get caught, "this was my own personal decision" is not much of a defense. " Donald Trump told me to" is worse.

I have no problems with the small group of people who have religious objections to vaccine. I have no problems with the other small group of people who have medical reasons. I know someone who had a lung removed with cancer, and the vaccine causes him medical problems. I get all that. They are exempt. They also are a very small percentage of people. What is not excusable is the group of people who claim they have a right to get other people sick. Those who believe their personal freedom is more important than anyone else's life. They're wrong about that.

Right now the government isn't mandating the vaccine to the general public. So if the issue is government over-reach, it's not happening. The government is trusting people to do the right thing. And as we've learned, there's always going to be a group who won't do the right thing.
