WWTN's Phil Valentine.

Other than re-hashed news stories, there's been no genuine update since Aug 13. This could be status quo for awhile
Considering his condition was never stable enough to have him transported to a hospital with an ECMO machine, I do wonder how his brain activity has faired. If he needed an ECMO, it was because the vent isn't oxygenating his blood sufficiently. Weeks of that will take a toll.

Valentine has passed away. Story in the IN MEMORIAM section.
Will this mean ANYTHING to those still playing with fire on the air over this stuff? Will Hannity stop pushing Ivermectin as an alternate solution? Will these people EVER be held accoutnable, including management, for allowing such a steady flow of dangerously misleading information to go over the public airwaves? Sickening.

I just wonder....he advised people to have a doctor who would write a prescription for Ivermectin on speed dial. You's almost think that would require a disclaimer, or is "just asking questions" a sufficient disclaimer?

Ah, Tucker's slimy way of sowing doubt while limiting liability. Even if these hosts don't have a conscience, I just don't understand how layers of management don't care either. That's a lot of despicable people in the chain of command.

Sad news, and i disagree with Valentine ['S POLITICAL VIEWS]100%. (I disagree with the Dems about 35%-40%.) But this trumps (no pun) that. This country is in bad shape when everyone's actions, statements, and pandemics and deaths are viewed through a political lens.

It's a political lens because what this guy and others like him do is 100% political.

We'll never know how many listeners bought into Phil's lies and either suffered a similar fate, or became contagious and spread Covid to other innocent victims. What everyone should know by now is that these bloviating rightwing hosts are all totally malicious, and the consequences of this kind of talk radio are completely negative and now they've been proven deadly.

And yet, some of this guys listeners will probably deny that he died of COVID. Talk Radio deserves a lot of blame for the current political climate. Sure, Facebook and other websites do as well. Rush Limbaugh and the parasites that mimicked him have poisoned the well. Radio companies that cowardly stand behind these hosts as "Entertainment" are equally responsible. We literally are living in a "Sh** Show"...

No. They know what their audience wants to hear, and they’ll keep telling them. A friend of mine lost her grandmother-in-law to complications from COVID-19. She still believes it’s a hoax and is 100% convinced the medical establishment had it wrong. No one in her family has gotten vaccinated since, and they have no plans to do so.

I don’t know how you lie away over 600,000 deaths. In the last two weeks, I have lost two people I've known from my radio days, both of whom worked in conservative media (Phil Valentine, by the way, was not one of them), to COVID-19 and its complications. To their die hard audience, COVID-19 remains fake, and the vaccine is far more harmful than any virus could ever be.

This means nothing to anybody who wasn’t already taking COVID seriously. They’ll never believe what actually happened. They see us as the people who are brainwashed and the people who will simply willingly go to Joe Biden's slaughterhouse when the government is ready to kill us.

You can’t reason with crazy.

It's interesting to observe now that rightwing media in general has painted itself into quite a corner: They love to double-down when wrong about something---and in this case, where covid precautions and vaccines are concerned, their steady stream of misinformation is qutie literally killing their base.

One look at "Pastor" Greg Locke's timeline or a minute of his screaming sermons will confirm that. He fills his circus tent with 1000 maskless, unvaccinated people (he will throw you out of his church for wearing a mask). I don't doubt Phil would have been at that Williamson County school board meeting complaining about masks.

Orthodoxy for 30 percent of the country is 1)Covid is fake, thus any and all precautions have no merit 2) Our Lord and Savior Donald Trump won the 2020 election in a landslide and victory was stolen from him and 3) only true believing Trump supporters are real true Americans and Christians. The GQP is well armed and radicalized.

I say the same thing about hosts who continually say that the national government, that licenses the very radio stations s that they are on, is illegitimate.

Oof RIP but at the same time given the way things are even in death his own words would be used against him in the grave the same way Dick Farrell's death took place.

Also a Third talk show host would deal with the same issue Marc Bernier and his rants are being used against him right now with uncertainty.

I will do my best to give you a limited and gentle different take on this. Oh forget that.

A Different Take

I have been friends with Phil Valentine since “the 96Kiss years” in the mid-80’s when he arrived in the “other” Nashville. The Tennessee one. He grew up in Nashville, North Carolina. I didn’t even believe it existed. But it did. I will spare you the details of his mother’s tragic death when he was a teenager or his father‘s Democratic political career.

Phil was definitely different. A bit reserved and somewhat unsure of himself to be in Nashville after being in radio in Raleigh. He wasn’t really social, but always nice. Eventually, I think he trusted me and we just talked about life. It was Top 40 radio. You probably know what we mostly talked about.

The station was soon sold and as was the big thing back then, the cool format that did good in the ratings and was one of the hottest stations in the city, would flip to elevator music. The magic was over, literally before it ever got started and the disaster of Magic 96 would bore listeners to tears. The dream of better revenue was not gonna happen. The station is now the top rated WCJK Jack-FM. It took a long while to get to that spot again.

Phil played the last song ever on 96Kiss, Orleans “Still the One.“ I was there as the designated bastard that had to walk out with him and say goodbye to what had been a hell of a station. Why? Because he asked me. “You’re coming up to see me kill this $**t off, right? Better bring a lot of beer.” What else would a 25 year old do on a Saturday night. Even better. Midnight on a Saturday night. I had another gig going and was all ok. He had nothing yet. The news of the demise was, as usual, pretty much hidden until the last few days. Phil was worried. He didn’t know that he would ever land at another station. He was confident that he did the best to sound great on the radio. He was really good. But, he didn’t really believe that anyone heard him. Who would hire him? Or why?

I came to realize that that standoff personality wasn’t ego. It was more rather he was focused and cautious. He was a perfectionist. That would change over the years. He learned to laugh at “hisseff.” He would land at WLAC-FM and then his career in Talk would blossom to national status at 99.7 WTN, along with another unsure guy digging into radio named Dave Ramsey. Many of you will know that name. Many mean and judgmental comments can be found on these boards, even by a few of the same posters as ABOVE. Joking. Well, sort of. I guess it goes with the territory. Usually. Right?

Phil and I never discussed politics until the years of his talk career. My point here is, guys, he was probably more real and just another American trying to get by, just like all of US, on here. Yes, his politics may have been opposite of yours. IT was his opinion. Right, left or wrong. He had to preach it. And believe it. Ramsey is the same. People sway you and you are finished. That was his gig and his show. That often is radio. It never changed him when I would see him. And I saw him fairly regularly, including as he zoomed down a street near where we both Iived, making sure he wouldn’t be too early to GOSSIP or too late to start his show. He was still THAT goofy GUY laying on the car horn telling me to get the hell out of his way. I WOULD fly down the road even faster to help make sure I didn’t make him late. Which we both loved. Sometimes we would laugh and talk at the traffic lights. He was pretty much a 60-year-old Kid. I can relate. Can you?

I did not often listen to his show. I would tune-in to hear his voice and then move on. Hearing his voice kind of meant all was ok. Just because PERHAPS I didn’t like his show, his political views, or whatever, didn’t mean I did not lIke and respect the man, just like HOPEFULLY I would many of you and you would me if we had worked together or our path‘s had crossed.

Obviously, we can’t personally know everybody. I get that.

I just ask you to consider this. IF YOU were where in Phil Valentine‘s place for the last month and then you passed away and could magically read the things said, how would you feel? What if you pass away today and we all find out tomorrow because BigA or David or Frank got a message that you had died, how would you like it if what you said above were your last written words and they were repeated in your obituary or on your Facebook page?

Plenty of people disagree about plenty of things. That used to be the spice of life. Now we absolutely go to war over politics or another persons upbringing, social status or even favorite football team.

I think most of you on here are pretty dang awesome and fairly benign. But, man, throwing stones at a dead man hours after his passing? Not radio cool or anything remotely cool doing that. Not the place. Not the gig. Does it really help you get even or something? Compassion for someone who may have been the absolute opposite of who we are, what we think or what we believe used to be what made us different from much of the world. Some countries don’t allow you to think differently. Right now, some of your critical comments are just as out of line and more mean spirited than the opinions and beliefs of the dead man’s that you are castrating above. He shouldn’t have affected you that much, unless you actually DID listen. Busted. Maybe. I doubt ya‘ll saying these things really listened.

This is supposed to be a RADIO chat board and NOT a hate board and maybe not even a political discussion board. Seems like that is an epic fail above. We get it. You all want you own talk show. That doesn’t seem real attractive as of late.

As for me, I am sorry to see my friend gone. I will miss him at the traffic lights. I always looked to see if he was behind me. That may be the only reason that I would want a traffic light in heaven, should I make it that way.

As for you, I would guess that if he is magically able to read these words, he may **** his head back like he always did, pause, look you in the eye, take a breath and laugh a bit and say....”Wow, I actually was good and effective and people actually heard me?

.. being mean because of politics in particular or even a wrong opinion on medical advice is awfully small. Can’t we be better than that? Me included.

Best to each of you...see ya on the radio. And get your vaccines please, if you want my advice. I guess it’s time to get myself in trouble and cast to the “take it outside“ board. That would be a first.

stay safe radiodiscussions family. I mean that. We are in this together.

In response to Tibbs4 -- It's unfortunate that your friend died. However, I do not see any posts on this page that are offensive. People have to held accountable for their actions even in death. Valentine does not deserve praise for his last Radio gig..

Many Talk Radio and TV hosts are spewing lies and vitriol every day. Some say it is just "entertainment". I don't see how it contributes to society in a constructive way. It has been lethal in some cases...

I'm sorry to hear that Phil died. I was hoping that he would make it out and become a voice to anti-vax people that he was wrong and they need to stop their lies. I'm glad he actually did make that statement before his death. Whether anyone listens is another question. There are still people who are making money spreading anti-vax lies who will probably keep it going as long as they're making a buck off of it or until their own lives are endangered because of COVID.

WWTN has had anti-vax guests on since Phil was hospitalized

I have had the exact same thoughts. I regret that, in the current political atmosphere, the prevailing majority opinion is to be happy and self-satisfied because "he got what he deserved". And both sides are guilty of that.
