Obviously, I don't know what's happening with WWTQ and I don't have access to the trends (other than 12+ like the rest of us) but I would think that when you have a severe format change such as 680 had, you bascially start at ground zero with the new format. Since Arbitron is an average of 3 months,we won't have any accurate information on WWTQ until the spring book comes out. Even then, It'll only reflect the first few months the new format has been on the air. More accurate numbers won't be reflected until the next book or even until the fall book comes out. Also, think about this...the old format of Easy 680 was all 60+..a demo no advertiser is interested in. The new Progressive Talk format is a 25-54 format that is more viable to advertisers. So let's give 680 time to make it's mark and then comment from a position of accurate information. If I were you, Radiosaur I wouldn't start eating that steak just yet!

I agree. I don't think anybody said that 680 would get higher ratings than WREC, but some people (particularly those of the conservative mindset) want to write off progressive talk stations just because they started sliding in the ratings after the elections. I've seen it on other boards where there is a progressive talk station. Some even thought the format would fail out of the gate. This a relatively new phenomenon and it's going to take some time to grow.

Air America did struggle out of the gate, but I think now it's finding its identity. While I'm not sold on Al Franken and "The Majority Report" (though Sam Seder is good, but Janeane Garafolo doesn't cut it for me), Randi Rhodes (whom I think AA should build around), Mike Malloy and Jerry Springer are solid hosts. I didn't think Springer would be that good, but I've been fairly impressed.

If I were 680, I'd dump the Majority Report and go with Ed Schultz, albeit on tape delay, or go local with Leon Gray, if he chooses to.

Actually, I agree with both of you. However, my bet was with a radio person who insisted that WWTQ would debut with higher numbers in 25-54 than Easy had in its target demo. Based on a 12+ drop, that cannot have happened.

So...medium well, please

As far as long term success of WWTQ goes, I don't think the format will 'succeed' as a political force in this town, and won't get much better ratings that Easy 680 had. However, as you pointed out...given a certain rating, having those numbers in 25-54 instead of 60+ probably IS more attractive to advertisers, so there will probably be a net gain in revenue. The question is, how much more expensive is the PT format to run? I would think it is much more, esepcailly if you have live shows.

It will all come down to the balance sheet. Long term, I don't think it is sustainable here for all the reasons I mentioned in previous posts when they first went on the air.

That's my professional view.

Personally, I get tired of so much name calling and bashing when I listen to 680. Malloy presents more of a factual basis for the things he says, and although I don't agree with him most of the time, he is professional and it's a good show. It's a shame you can't trust information presented as fact (from anyone) nowdays. The spin never stops.

Franken has actually become Stuart Smalley. That man needs help.

WREC sounds much better. Now if they could do something about Fleming's syntax.

Careful, don't mix 'tax' and 'Fleming' in the same sentence, you'll get an earful.<P ID="signature">______________

Springer is surprisingly good. And you're right about Malloy...He is a bona-fide pro who makes his emotionally powerful points with factual information. As for name calling and spinning and bashing...what do you think Rush has been doing his entire career? It's true, you can't trust information presented as fact in today's media, but you CAN do your own research, and if you do, I think you will find that Malloy makes a HELL of a lot more sense than Sean Hannity. I agree, Franken is VERY dry,and not a good fit for the mainstream south. However his recent visit here was extremely well recieved! Randi Rhodes is absolute holy water to the Kool Aid drinkers of our bible belt. She's great. Garafalo is a bit thin...even silly and sophomore at times, but Sam Seder almost balances the equation on the Majority Report. Leon Gray provides a great local perspective. I'm sure he will be heard from more. The thing that impresses me most is the wide demographic response that WWTQ seems to be getting. Based on the local callers I've heard, even those who say they think the station is the voice of the anti-Christ are at least listening. And the diversity of those callers is truly amazing. As for Fleming's syntax...When in Rome......

I agree with all of you. I was also impressed by Springer when I finally go to hear some of his show.

I enjoy Morning Sedition, Franken is growing on me, Randi at first crawled my nerve but has turned that completely around and I catch myself listening on my drive home more than not.

I would love to hear Leon Gray do a local show.
