Maybe he didn't like the direction 105.7 The Groove has taken.
Hey, anything would almost be better than BIG MESS he had created
.........which went nowhere.
I'm not sure why everyone slams this station so much. The sound they did have (which was a mix of rhythmic hits from the late 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2k, is exactly what the Rhythmic AC format is supposed to be). I see so much complaining because it's not "CHR" enough, not current enough, etc. The station is slammed for mixing disco, freestyle, 90s dance, and today's rhythmic hits. Well, that's what the rhythmic AC format is all about. That's exactly what Clear Channel is doing on their other successful rhythmic AC stations in other markets like WKTU New York, WISX Philadelphia, WMIA Miami, KSYU Albuquerque, Z100 Ft Myers, WDTW Detroit, etc. So why is it that people think this is not a valid format in Atlanta, and why do you feel the station has to move toward being yet another current based CHR instead of a broad based rhythmic AC? Anyway, it just strikes me as kind of odd that these comments keep coming up regarding 105.7 in Atlanta. I'm not really hearing these complaints about the rhythmic AC format being a "trainwreck" or "mess" from other markets. Is there something inherently different about the Atlanta demos that means this format can't work here?
Anyway, I love the Rhythmic AC format. I've liked it since the Movin' stations first signed on, and still do. I think Clear Channel's rhythmic AC's sound even better than the Movin' ones did though. And I don't see why a rhythmic AC format cannot work. Why is it that rock based Hot AC and gold formats are seen as valid, but no one seems to want to hear gold based rhythmic songs? Do most people consider rhythmic hits more "throw away" or "disposable" songs, that aren't meant to be heard again? Seems odd to me.
Also, as far as 105.7 being successful or not; that's going to be hard to judge. The signal is so limited, that nothing is going to produce stellar ratings on that frequency. So I wouldn't say the station is a failure just because the ratings didn't really soar overnight. I think any format on that signal will have to settle for marginal ratings. But Rhythmic AC pulls very desirable and sellable female demos (late 20's to 40s), and I think it is still a wise choice for 105.7. Hopefully, the Groove will stick around. I think Rhythmic AC certainly makes more sense for the limited signal instead of trying to be the 4th variant of CHR in town.
