WWWF on NYC TV

Hi

I'm curious about the history of what was then known as Capitol Wrestling Corporation/World Wide Wrestling Federation in NYC TV on WNEW Channel 5 (Now
WNY or something like that)

I know that at one time during the early 60's

they had as many as three shows producing

Heavyweight Wrestling from Washington (DC/WWTG Channel 5 also had it as well)

Wrestling From Sunnyside Gardens

Wrestling Exhibitions (Taped from Brigdeport, CT. and was also seen on WMAQ Channel 5 out of Chicago)

It all started in 1956 when the DC show was the first one

then the second one followed in 58

and the third one in 59

Ray Morgan handled the DC & Bridgeport shows

While Lonnie Starr worked the Sunnyside show

I know Sunnyside was cancelled in 1962

Here's what I don't know:

when did the brigdeport show come to and end; 1963?

When did they move to UHF station that was mostly spanish and how many shows were on there ?

When did they move to WOR and how many shows was on the channel during their run?

Thank You

> Washington Wrestling was still on 5 as late as September 1965 Saturdays 8PM-10PM. WWF came to Ch. 9 about 1970 and was on Saturdays at midnight for many years also when Smithtown NY had a station Ch 67 a different weekly show of WWF was on Sundays afternoons at I think 5PM each show was 60 minutes,

FWIW, I remember some of the same wrestling programming on the pre-public TV Wilmington, Delaware Channel 12 (in the Philly market) in their comm'l days.

My beloved godparents lived in Philly, and my Dad, my Uncle Fred and I would have lots of laughs watching 'em when we came to visit!

Love that Haystacks Calhoun! If he couldn't getcha with a body slam, he'd sit on you and finish ya for the night!

Rock On!
