Brentwood H.S. Radio Station Wins Again
For the third consecutive year, Brentwood High School radio station WXBA 88.1 FM sent student representatives to Naperville, Illinois, for the National John Drury High School Radio Awards held at North Central College on October 8, 2005. Southwest Airlines generously supplied the students with 15 FREE round-trip plane tickets.
WXBA took home second place in Best Adapted Drama for their portrayal of the Dickens classic, "A Christmas Carol." WXBA General Manager, Ms. Jaimie Ottone, won the honor of second place in the Best Advisor category. This awards program is dedicated to recognizing broadcast excellence at high school radio stations across the country. Once again, WXBA is the only high school radio station in the entire east coast region to be recognized through this awards program.
Last year, WXBA Station Advisor Jaimie Ottone and the student representatives were on hand at the awards ceremony in Illinois as they received first place for a station promo titled, "Show Intro." WXBA also received third place recognition in the Best Advisor category.
WXBA is a student-run, community-based radio station that has been broadcasting from Brentwood High School since 1975. Students take leadership positions in all facets of the organization such as production manager, program director, music director and sports director. Their voices also travel the airwaves as broadcasters. Brentwood High School alumni broadcast from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m., immediately followed by student volunteers until 8 p.m. Students develop and write their own material, under the guidance of Ms. Ottone.
