Western Connecticut State University cut power to the Campus due to a power Emergency that was declared. It should Be back on the air Later this evening this effected 91.7 Studio. The transmitter away from the mid Town campus was shut off too due to FCC regulations with silent air and the TOTH ID.

WXCI 91.7 Shut off due to Power Emergency

WXCI should be shut down until they change the format to Rock/Classic Rock/Active Rock instead of the Punk Rock/Alternative Rock that they've been programming for almost 30 years.
It's indescribable.
In it's heyday in the late '70's-early '80's, 'XCI was receiving higher ratings than I-95.
The people that worked @'XCI @that time have gone on to work @many major market stations in the USA.
I haven't heard any from the past 30 years working anywhere.

As recently as 20 years ago, WXCI was supplying the local commercial stations with air talent. It was our most valuable source of people. Compared to many college stations, WXCI had its act together with a much more consistent format than any noncomm I can think of. Arbitron isn't big on publishing noncommercial stations in their reports, so I'm not sure where you would have gotten your numbers.

well besides the 5 songs an hour thrown at me... I wish it was only 2 to 3... I am active rock/80's hair fridays 4-7.. under a lot of pressure that I am not a specialty show even when you have been doing this for 6 years (91.5 wwlr lyndonville VT for 5 with no rotation) Hopefully that changes sooner than later. I wish they had new active rock/ hair in rotation but I have been turned down stated that we are an "Indie Rock" station. all I can do is try my best. I got so much I want to play but don;t have the time and with the rotation cannot get the listenership that just want the active rock/hair.

In the late '70's - early '80's, 'XCI was rated the #1 collegiate radio station in the USA by Rolling Stone magazine.
They also had an FCC issue w/WRKI-95 (who they were very tight w/in the ARBs) that I-95 wanted to change their call letters too close to the sound of WXCI.
The FCC shot it down.
