WXCT 990

Any truth to the rumour I've been hearing about WXCT flipping to Espaniol today? I can't receive their signal in the house at the moment.

Charlie Profit is on the air as I speak. He is doubting that the station will be changing formats and is asking to put these rumors to rest.

Before rumors go rampant, Thursday is the final day CAB Radio will be managing WXCT for Davidson Media Group, and thus the final day of Talk Radio 990. If there are any questions, please direct them to me personally.

WXCT flipped at 330 today

For anyone that cares (like Alan Fletcher) WXCT flipped to Spanish Language Programming at 330PM this afternoon. I got word about the flip from my friend Nick about 40 mins ago. I flipped the station on and I can't understand what they're calling the station. Top of the hour ID in English was done by Charlie Profit as WXCT Southington. And then right after there was a female voice-over in Spanish WXCT Southington, Connecticut. And then she said the name of the station.

Re: WXCT flipped at 330 today

Great! As if we need another Spanish station. :(

Re: WXCT flipped at 330 today

Wow. Spanish. Big Surprise there...

Marc, what's your beef with me? I love the way you so politically correctly described the new 'format' as "Spanish Language Programming"...

WXCT/Hartford Flips To Spanish Religion

From AllAccess 5/14

Davidson Media's WXCT-A/Hartford has flipped from Talk to Spanish Religion.

The web site for the previous "Talk Radio For Women & Smart Men" carries a message that the programming will move to the Internet & will be looking for a new terrestrial station home.

IMHO, where?

How about an LPFM?

Bristol is the 6th largest city in the state, & the home of world-famous ESPN.

It's a shame that a city that large, w/a large company such as ABC/Disney, doesn't even have a station.

They should bring back WBIS, & program talk & former PD/AM Driver Don Moline's "RealOldies".

They do have station... WPRX, 1120AM is licensed to Bristol, CT

Charlie, where are you in all of this...?

If something is indeed in the works, let me know.. I'd be glad to 'Volunteer Engineer'...

I have been checking in to 990 for the past few mornings since the flip... what a disaster. Overmodulated, overdriven audio and some dude screaming at the top of his lungs in Spanish... I understand some spanish, I was barely able to deduce the format was Religion by the fact that I was able to barely make out the word 'Christo' several times in every sentence. But audio that bad has no excuse. It sounds absolutely attrocious, like a bad Manhattan pirate or perhaps a CB operator with a bad 'power mic'. Shame too, because they have a decent processor (which they have obviously been tweaking up).

I did drive by the station this past Sunday and there were about 8 cars in the parking lot. I was thinking maybe there was something local happening there... but it sure doesn't sound that way. Maybe they made an Inn out of it? Maybe they have people living in there, sleeping on the floor?

I know how frustrating it is to lose something cherished. But it isn't necessary to "pick them apart". They just started, and have their own kinks to work out. They are nice people, and I wish them well.

Alan, as far as you driving by on Sunday...it's always like that on Sunday. There is an Italian program, and they generally fill the parking lot, for at least a couple hours. Thanks for your offer to do som engineering work...I'll keep you posted!

I know of a LPFM in Middletown (no not Jammin 99.5) that seems to sign off each night that seems to need to fill empty programming timeslots (or maybe that transmitter costs alot to run??)

You know them personally, or you know of them? If you know them, have them contact me if they are looking for content, if you know of them, send along any info you have (you can PM me, IM me, or email me so as to not clutter up the thread, or publish private info)...Thanks.

No, I don't, it just seems like they need to fill some air time as they keep signing off at night, every night is different too, just whe I guessed the schedule would be 6AM-6PM weeknights and till 10 fri, sat, sun, it changes. I'm not really sure what they are doing, it is interesting to listen to. Oh yeah, the website (with a 24/7 webcast???) is http://www.cnxradio.com

Hey, Alan! Fancy meeting YOU here! ;)

Didn't 990 used to be called WNTY? "What? No Transmitter, Yet?"

I have to LAUGH OUT LOUD at the description of 64Kbps audio as "CD Quality" on that cnxradio WEBsite! Seedy Quality is more like it! ;) Sounds about like 10Khz AM.

FWIW, as a follow up to the flip of WXCT (formerly WNTY) some time ago comes word that due to it's struggle to attain affiliates, Greenstone Media is shutting down operations after this week.

WXCT, in it's incarnation as a female-oriented talk station, was an affiliate of Greenstone; carrying such programs as "The Radio Ritas."
